What's "Lawyering"? Legal Methods/Writing?All first year students take four courses in the fall semester: Contracts, Procedure I, Torts, and Lawyering.

Do you think we can show up anytime on the 23rd to check into Mercer?

So how many people are going to be in Mercer this year? I'm horribly lazy and missed the housing deadline, resulting in missing out on D'Ag.

Lots of us. I preferred Mercer in any case, due to the larger rooms and the newer building.walkmen wrote:So how many people are going to be in Mercer this year? I'm horribly lazy and missed the housing deadline, resulting in missing out on D'Ag.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
Are most of you going with GradPLUS loans or private loans? I'd thought that the former were the way to go, especially b/c they're the only ones covered by LRAP, but someone said earlier that that's not true for NYU. I can't find any info on NYU's site that says one way or the other. If private loans are covered by LRAP, and presuming you can get rates lower than 8.5%, what would be the advantage of GradPLUS loans?

gradplus loans are fixed rates. I do not believe you can get fixed rate private loans, but I could be wrong. Personally, I do not want the risk of a variable rate monstrous loan after the recent mortgage crisis.
in re:: movein times, I believe I read on the NYU site that someone is there 24/7 during the movein periods.

There is, but I also think it says that you should arrive after 9AM on your move-in date in you're moving in early. You also can't use a moving bin during the night, which would likely make moving in easier.zeezoo wrote:gradplus loans are fixed rates. A moving bin is a giant plastic bin on wheels, it comes in handy to roll your stuff from the car to the elevators.
As for the loans, NYU's LRAP does cover private loans, up to the certified amount minus expected student contribution. It's the FEDERAL loan forgiveness program that requires GradPLUS loans.

Corrected my original message.
Here's what the website (LinkRemoved) says:
Here's what the website (LinkRemoved) says:
Residents may check-in anytime (24 hours a day) after 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2008 . Residents with a confirmed Early Arrival (An arrival prior to the start of the Academic Year License Period) may check-in anytime after 9:00 a.m. on the date confirmed, or the time noted on your confirmation. The Door Attendant will have your check-in packet; however please be advised that rolling bins for unloading your car and moving large items (Mercer Residence and D'Agostino Hall) are only usable until 11:00 p.m. due to the excessive noise they create. The Front Desk is open 24 hours a day.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
I'm confused. So the only significant advantage of the GradPLUS program is that you lock in your loans at a relatively high 8.5%? And this is why it seems like it's the route everyone's going?phillyphan wrote:A moving bin is a giant plastic bin on wheels, it comes in handy to roll your stuff from the car to the elevators.
As for the loans:
1) NYU's LRAP does cover private loans, up to the certified amount minus expected student contribution. It's the FEDERAL loan forgiveness program that requires GradPLUS loans.
2) Private loan interest rates are not likely to "shoot up" all of a sudden, as they are tied to the Prime Rate. Unless the government all of a sudden raises interest rates 80s style, I wouldn't worry about interest rate risk, especially considering the rate is currently considerably lower on a private loan than on a GradPLUS loan.
Food for thought.

I know this is off the current topic but does anyone know if NYU's beta testing for their Mac compatible exam software is complete? I know we are allowed to use Macs but wanted to make sure they all had the kinks out of the system before purchasing my Macbook.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2011
Some random questions:
1. Where is everyone flying into? I've only ever flown into Laguardia before and have no idea how Newark and Long Island airports work.
2. How are people managing with the bag restrictions most airlines have now? Anyone calculated extra bag cost vs. shipping?
3. Anyone know if there is storage under the beds in Mercer?
