So when were we going to raid the BU Law building and give their students purple nurples? Wait, is that plan supposed to be a secret?

Like Kmoneys, I am also a 1L at BC and as you can tell from my post count I used to be very active on TLS. Feel free to ask any me any questions about BC or Boston.

I've got one. Are most/all of the grades for mandatory 1L courses based on a single final?jeff2486 wrote:Like Kmoneys, I am also a 1L at BC and as you can tell from my post count I used to be very active on TLS. Feel free to ask any me any questions about BC or Boston.

Re: Boston College Class of 2011
Yes, with the exception of Legal Writing and Introduction to Lawyering and Professional Responsibility (ILPR). However ILPR has been cut from the curriculum and 1Ls from now on will be able to choose an elective to take in the spring (where the grade may or may not be based on a final depending on which course you take).
Legal writing is based on 2 memos (with multiple (2) drafts of each) worth around 80% of your grade, citation worth 5-10% and a research exam worth 10-15%.
The rest of the classes will be based solely on a final exam. Most professors have some sort of mid-term that is optional in order to help you get a feel for how their exam will be and how prepared you are. Depending on the professor they may either give general feedback to the class or grade each of your mid-terms individually.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Jeff. I've got another quick question, if you don't mind.jeff2486 wrote:Yes, with the exception of Legal Writing and Introduction to Lawyering and Professional Responsibility (ILPR). Are professors willing to work with students on an individual basis if students approach with questions? For instance, if I was to take an old final and answer one of the questions would the profs be willing to go over it with me?
Thanks again.

Re: Boston College Class of 2011
Great question. I have almost no doubt that any teacher at BC would be willing to meet with you for almost anything. Certainly all of my professors are in that boat. Professors are very busy, but they make it a point to leave plenty of time to meet with students. After finals 1st semester it is common practice to meet with professors to talk about your exam. Some of them know this so they schedule class-wide meetings with general feedback, but they are always willing to meet individually if you need it (they just figure they can knock out a lot of confusions and questions with a group meeting).
The professors here are very approachable. After almost every class students are in front of the room talking to the professors about a variety of topics. The professors try to keep as many office hours as possible and will work with you to schedule time to meet if necessary.
No professors are perfect and BC professors aren't all outstanding in the classroom (although many I have had so far are outstanding), but I have no doubt that they care deeply about their students and their student's success.

What would you recommend to someone who doesn't know anyone in Boston or going to Boston College as far as a living situation?- noting that I would like to live with other people and did not attend any accepted students days.

i would recommend going to the BC grad student housing fair on june 20th. there will be other grad students there looking for roommates, as well as real estate agents and what not. also join the bc law 2011 facebook group, people have been posting roommate openings thereh20man wrote:What would you recommend to someone who doesn't know anyone in Boston or going to Boston College as far as a living situation?- noting that I would like to live with other people and did not attend any accepted students days.
there is also a list of people looking for roommates that comes out eventually, you may want to contact someone in admissions to ask about that.
suggested living areas: brighton, brookline, allston, newton

For housing I would also recommend getting on the facebook group for class of 2011.

A lot of people are in the same boat as you and you can find some roommates and information about housing.

This might be a little random, but...how much should people clean up their facebook profile pics and such before going to law school? I don't really have anything ridiculous but at the same time I wonder if my college standards are different than a professional school's standards.

Just make your profile private and you should be all set. Also make sure to choose who you decide to friend (and allow to see your profile) carefully. You can also turn off tags so that photos of you taken by others won't show up in your profile.ImACuckoo wrote:This might be a little random, but...how much should people clean up their facebook profile pics and such before going to law school? apparently posting on TLS didnt hurt, they just gave me another scholarship for 'double eagles' (bc ugrad & grad/law). super fast turn around as my email was only forwarded to the assistant dean of fin aid this morning.
BC Law 2011 100% positive now! im going to withdraw from the GULC preferred waitlist and pull my pending app at vandy b/c the BC money is too good to pass up. plus, i pretty much bleed maroon & gold and will have a really hard time anywhere else anyway! haha

Re: Boston College Class of 2011
In Newton. IIRC, it's about a 10 minute walk from the Elliot stop on the D line. From there, I can hop onto the T, go 2 stops to Newton Center, and walk to the law school. Not the easiest (should be about 25-30 minutes) but it should work fine for me.sibarg2 wrote:Kompressor, where are you living?

it's an invite-only dinner for students receiving endowed scholarships to meet benefactors and donors and what not. just wondering if anyone will be there.MMW wrote:No one told me about this dinner. When did you hear about it?
