Me! Me! And football as well, as my UG didn't have a football team. Our basketball team finished top 5 in recruiting this year, so we should have some good sports to watch. I have no idea how to go about getting tickets though - hopefully they'll let us know soon!

i don't think it will be that hard to get tickets since Wake is a small private school but yeah i am really excited for the sports.

We should be pretty good in both basketball and football this year. I'm looking forward to seeing the Deacon Tower when it's completed for the Ole Miss game. It looks like its coming along nicely so far!

So I found out that the first week of classes 18-22 is just Legal Research and Writing all week. We don't have Contracts or Crim Law or Torts. We'll get a LRW assignment in our orientation packet (15th) and then that whole first week will be something to do with it.

Eek. At least they ease you into it. How's the weather down there now lishi? Unbearably hot?lishi wrote:So I found out that the first week of classes 18-22 is just Legal Research and Writing all week. We don't have Contracts or Crim Law or Torts. It's actually not that bad. But I'm used to hot, sticky Philadelphia summers, so just about anything is better than that.
Also I'm sooo excited that it's just LRW. I'll be in a wedding that weekend in California, so doing that on top of all the reading assignments really freaked me out.

I've been lurking for a while. I'll be going to Wake as well. Thank you so much for the email information. I don't plan on getting a parking permit since I'm going to be living very close and permits are rather expensive.

I'm getting one too. Compared to my UG, these parking permits are cheap.
Do you know when we can register? I tried to on WIN but they only have options for summer parking.

Re: Wake Forest class of 2011
Thanks for the email info lishi! My random collection of letters spells a word, which kind of weirds me out.
As for parking permits, I'm getting one. I vaguely remember reading (I think in the most recent bill) that you just add the cost of the permit and write in that you are purchasing one.
And the only others I know who are headed to Wake are the group I met from House Hunt. I guess there are so few on here because our class size is so small. Either way, I'm really excited. I move down on the 7th. I just hope I'll have enough time to "get settled" and feel at home before class starts!

Re: Wake Forest class of 2011
At least Winston Salem is pretty easy in terms of getting settled. If you're living close to school, you're pretty close to most of the things that are useful on University City, and what isn't there can usually be found just off of Rynolda Rd. or Silas Creek Parkway. Also, if you have a chance (and don't mind the nice heat/humidity), make sure to drop by the park around Rynolda House and the park at Bethabara. They're both nice, quiet places. Rynolda gardens should still be pretty nice this time of year. If you're looking for more of a day hike, Pilot Mountain is pretty nice and just 20 minutes north of Wake.
Sorry, I don't know where that tangent came from. Feel free to PM me any questions you might have about where stuff is and I can try and help you out though.
The sad part is that I've lived in Winston Salem for three years and don't know the northern side of town too well because I lived on the southern border of Forsyth County (close to my old job). However, Wake is about 15 minutes away from almost everything you need.
By the way: pardon my moronicy (if that's a word), but I can change my password for WIN but it doesn't affect my email password. Anyone know where I should go or what I need to do?

that happened to me a couple times when I tried to login to the email, but then it changed. Try your WIN password again and see now.
Thanks for the places to go. Maybe I'll take my cat to the park tomorrow. (yes I said my cat, she likes to sit on a leash in the sun eating ants)

I just visited the campus today while my wife was off signing HR paperwork at her new job (media specialist at an elementary school). Lot of athletic camps going on. For those of you already in Winston, did y'all get damage from those storms that rolled through yesterday? Those things were nasty!

Yes, it was amazing watching the radar and the sky, because it popped up out of nowhere southeast of me and didn't move at all...I barely got the edge of it, but that was still a good 30 minute dumping of rain. If I had chosen to move to Ardmore, I'm pretty sure whatever house I had moved into would've floated away or been crushed by a tree.acharpe wrote:I just visited the campus today while my wife was off signing HR paperwork at her new job (media specialist at an elementary school). My SO works at the Med School, and the damage there was outright nasty. Roads closed. A tree that had to be over 200 years old downed by lightning (though somehow didn't fall in the middle of the road). The craziest story was someone in her lab broke her arm because the change in air pressure and the horizontal force of the rain broke her window. The ensuing flood in her room caused her to slip and fall when she walked in.
Her lab is on the 6th floor. Insane. Made yesterday seem tame by comparison.

That is terrifying. I had no idea the weather was so bad down there the past few days, but I haven't really been checking the NC weather forecast. Glad you and the SO are ok though!waytofailself wrote:The craziest story was someone in her lab broke her arm because the change in air pressure and the horizontal force of the rain broke her window. This might sound lame, but I'm getting really excited for school to start. I'm also terrified, but I feel like I really haven't worked my brain all summer. Hopefully it still works.
I don't move down to Winston until the 8th, I just hope I have a enough time to get settled, physically and mentally.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
