I looked at Oak Park and Su Casa, both were pretty nice. I chose something a bit cheaper though (hopefully I don't end up getting burned for doing that!).

I just got back from Austin, visited for the first time to find a place. The city is awesome, I'm quite pleased. I had expected it to be flat with dead grass, but it's actually very pretty, somewhat hilly with far more green and trees than I had expected.

The temperature was in the high 90s the whole time, but it didn't really bother me, which was also unexpected. Lots of stuff to do, lots of good eats. I'm pumped.

Yeah, they're really really expensive. I couldn't believe that that many people were living there. I think it's like 1200 a month for a dinky efficiency.

Maybe it's all out of state folks living there who aren't used to our lower COL? Or maybe the rest of us are just poor.

They're fancy. They're a really trendy spot...if I remember correctly, there's shopping an eats on the first floor and the apartments are above. It really is pretty nice, but many they're expensive. I'm going to (hopefully) assume they're from out of state and didn't realize how cheap they could live, rather than assume I'm Mr. Poor.

Su Casa is pretty close, the shuttle is literally right outside. A friend of mine lives there, and that's where I stayed for admitted student's weekend. I might see if they have any one bedrooms. Unless someone wants to be my freaking roommate.

There's some nice, affordable places out by the arboretum too if people were willing to drive about 10-15 mins. You'd have to come down the MOPAC every morning though which would be a bit of a turnoff, but my friend who finished up at UT Law last year did it for all 3 years, no problem. Just another option to consider.

Interesting, sounds like a nice place.

And you better get on those Su Casa efficiencies/1BR's. I was there a week or two ago & it was slim pickings then; it was the same at where I'm staying.

If you are willing to live with strangers, I believe Ranier will match you up potluck style & you just pay for your rent to them directly. It might be better than living with another 1L & all, anyhow. Assuming you'll want to stop talking about law & just watch TV @ some point.

Traffic is horrible in Austin, and parking's pretty bad as well. I'm sure you can find some real nice complexes with 1beds for 6-800 up there, but placing yourself in a position where you can't bike to school or downtown isn't something I'd recommend from what I've seen.

The Texas Hill Country, of which Austin is sort of the beginning, is really one of the more beautiful places in the country.

The heat has been terribly oppressive this summer. I think on 14 June we had already reached nine record highs for the month. I stopped paying attention after that. Something to be wary of, though: June is usually cooler than September, so get ready.

Austin definitely has great food. That's one of it's strongest draws for me.

I don't really consider people I've messaged on the internet very much higher than strangers, so I might look into that.

So you live there? Know of any good, fairly cheap Asian restaurants? Finding great tex-mex and barbecue/comfort food was so incredibly easy that I didn't do much of any looking for Asian food.

I heard September is the worst, as the humidity gets up there as well as the temperature; that will probably be more what I was thinking upper 90s should feel like.
