University of Texas 2011

Post by countbizaller » Mon Feb 25, 2008 1:58 pm

Didn't see a thread yet for UT so I figured I'd try and round up the herd. Anyone headed to the ASW in March?

Here's the Facebook group.

I live about an hour away so I'm going to see if I can take some time off and go.

I just got back from the ASW this weekend and I'm pretty sure I'll be in Austin this fall.

I just got back from the ASW this weekend and I'm pretty sure I won't be in Austin this fall.

To be fair, most people I talked to at the ASW said that the visit either confirmed thier preference for UT or pushed them strongly in that direction.

What is helping you decide against UT?

Can you give us any insight into why you won't be there? I'd like to hear what people didn't like about Texas. I've heard all sorts of positives, but not many negatives.

I think it had something to do with the bridge to tunnel ratio. He's been talking about it all week.

UT looks like a great school with dedicated professors that has some fantastic clinics. The post on the U of Texas ASW thread gives a good overview of the ASW. However, for the particular law I want to practice and the overall environment I want, it is not the right fit. The ASW made it a little easier for me to give up the in-state tuition + $.

PM me if you want the specifics

Am I misunderstanding what that BT ratio means? Austin is pretty far from Manhattan?

My visit was one of those that confirmed my attendance in the fall. I even got a t-shirt. There's no turning back now.

My rejection letter from Yale, coupled with my acceptance letter from UT, confirmed my attendance in the fall.

It brings me great joy to say (with near certainty) that i'll be in Austin this fall!! The more i think about it, i really think that even if i get into Cornell, i'd rather go to Texas. If they come through with any sort of money, the deal will be sealed and my flight will be booked.

GO LONGHORNS!!!

This helps seal the deal over Ithaca as well...Wikipedia on Austin climate...
For the entire year there is an average of 111 days above 90 °F (32 °C) and 198 days above 80 °F (27 °C).[12]
Winters in Austin are mild and dry. For the entire year, Austin averages 88 days below 45 °F (7 °C) and 24 days when the minimum temperature falls below freezing.

It's important not to gloss over the 111 days above 90 °F. It gets hot here.

Yeah but it's sort of like when i went to UNC...the summer sucks but that's the only time i don't plan to be in town so it works out beautifully.

Tough for me to pass up the WUSTL full ride, but Austin is heaven, or so it seemed over my trip there.

I'll be at UT next year. Hopefully it's as fun as it seemed!

Anyone else planning on getting football tickets?

Sweet! More Longhorns. And I too plan on getting football tickets. I actually want to get a full sports pass since UT is good in pretty much every sport.

I will be joining you in doing that. I don't really know how to go about getting any of those tickets or passes...but I want to!

Sports at UT are definitely a plus.

Any idea where you are living yet? This is going to be a real bitch finding a place for me. I will have to make another trip to Austin soon. I'm thinking north of campus, maybe a 10 minute drive or 20 minute bus ride kind of thing. Would I be secluding myself too much?

My housing situation is gonna be a little unique from most other students. I'm actually getting the hometown hook-up from someone that's finishing up at UT this August that owns a condo across from the law school. So if you see a dude clutching a pillow, sleepily stumbling through traffic on his way to the law school in the mornings, that'd be me.

And from what I hear North Campus is where most grad students live and is actually the nicest neighborhood around the school. It's just tougher to find a place there than other areas. I would recommend contacting an apartment locater. They don't cost anything since they get their commission from the various apartments and most of them have their realtor license and know the area very well.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
