I noticed this "Parking: $624 parking fee ($312 per term)" on the financial aid website along with tuition cost and fees. Does everyone drive & park? Is there no housing nearby or public transportation?

(I know this is a random question, but I thought if someone had visited they might know.)

I'm pretty sure that I'll be going to Emory. Barring something unexpected from the schools I'm still waiting on, I don't think I can turn down the money from Emory. Plus, I want to work in the South, I like Atlanta, and I have family there.

Alright, I am going to Emory for sure. I started the official Emory School of Law Class of 2011 group on facebook that everyone should join when they make the decision to attend Emory.

As for the elitist rumors, I heard these a LOT over the years. I have heard so much stuff, like people rip out pages in important books, it is snobby, they are eggheads, and all sorts of terrible things. I can tell you one thing, from all of the students I have talked to, my personal experience with staff, and sitting in on a class, this was not the case at all. I have heard that this rumor was maybe true in the 80's and early 90's, but Emory is a great place to go and I cannot wait. I am not rich by the way, in fact I am rather poor. Emory still seems great!

Vandy is a tough cookie to crack from the waitlist. Congratulations fellow Emory 1L. Would you pay full tag at Vandy if you got of the WL?

I can't wait to see what Emory is going to rank next year. They stayed the same this year, which I was fearing was not going to happen. With their new strategic scholarship offerings, I think the medians for both the LSAT and UGPA's will rise substantially. Combine that with the massive spending per student that they are doing, we should be looking at a nice jump. I think that Emory will be T20 in a couple years!

ASW in several days. I can't wait!! :D

The longer this wait is, the more I figure I'm probably not getting in at Emory... My application status has been on complete for months...

So Who has started to look at housing? I want to find a place where I don't have to drive to school and either walk, or be able to walk to the cliff shuttle!

OK, more on the rumors. While the students I met on my visit did insist that the elitest, cutthroat rumors are just remnants from decades past, my cousin (who graduated from Emory Law School in 2006) tells a much different story. She said that it is a very elitest school that has a large contingent of kids that have Ivy League degrees but couldn't get into Ivy League law schools and therefore have a chip on their shoulders. She said that there were countless instances of petty BS such as book stealing and page ripping. I would like to think that it's changed in two years, but that seems unlikely. I think the rumors themselves might make people more likely to act in such a childish manner, like it's justified because it's expected. That said, I just sent in a seat deposit and am up in the middle of the night on TLS forums, so I am clearly in the grip of mixed emotions on the subject.

I gotta say I have heard the very same thing. In fact when I told my friend that I was pretty set on Emory, his answer was, "then I won't tell you what my sister had to say about it". Nothing good. However, that being said, I had a great time when I visited and I loved the faculty(which means a lot more to me than the student body). I met very nice people and while I'm sure there are elitist jerks, I'm sure you'll find those type of people at any number of law schools.

You mean just like every other T30 school?

Somehow I doubt Emory attracts these competitive persons while the more good natured ones head off to the other peer schools. It makes no sense.

did anyone see the little bookstore in the law school when they visited? I wanted to grab an emory law school sweatshirt but didn't get around to it...

Haha. Yeah, I'm sure the nice kids are off to UVA, Michigan, BU, Vandy, etc(Vandy, by the way, I've also heard is full of snooty students) But rumors are just that, rumors and if the school's right for you then everything else is just white noise. I personally think you are going to find jerks, elitist or otherwise anywhere (from T20 to T100) and likewise you'll find very nice people anywhere you go also. Just make friends with the nice people!
