Yeah-- I am having mine set up in early August. I got the cable/internet/DVR-no phone. Its normally 99.95 plus $10 a month for DVR plus tax. When I called they were doing a special for $88 +10- so my total bill is $100.32 or something like that. It seems pricey compared to here, but internet just by itself is $50-60-I figured I might as well enjoy my shows on DVR whenever I have time to watch them.

Hey, did anyone else get invited to this pre-orientation "academic orientation" thing the week before actual orientation starts? I feel vaguely offended by their assumption that I need extra help before classes start, but on the other hand, it could be a nice way to meet people and start getting used to being a student again after 2 years out...

Yeah, I rec'd that, as well. I'll be around, so I'll probably go. It depends on what the schedule is like, as I have plans to visit family and stuff that week.

Yeah, I was planning on being up there that early anyway, so I might as well go, but if it's just going to be a bunch of ice breakers and stuff like that for a week, I'd rather pass. The law school library website mentions some part of the academic orientation includes a session for learning how to use the library for legal research, etc., which could be useful to get out of the way.

Yeah, I saw that, too. I tried to find a schedule somewhere online, but came up empty. It might be useful, and if it isn't too time consuming, I'll give it a shot.

I got a vague snail mail letter. It just says that the Academic Orientation Program, taught by members of the law school faculty, is held the week of 8/18-8/22, that the law school will provide you with a $150 stipend to help with the cost of lodging, and that you should call the admissions office if you want to participate. I'm sure if you didn't get it, you can still just call the admin office to find out about it.

I don't know about this either. Is this open to everyone?

The letter I got says it's for "all entering students for whom the program might be especially worthwhile," which sounds like it's not for the whole incoming class. The phrasing made me wonder if if they were taking a shot at my relatively low LSAT score. It might make sense to offer people with lower numbers some help, I guess, even if it's just to build the confidence of splitters or something.

You could always call them and ask about it.

What happened with the other place? Did you decide you didn't want to drive?

Well, ok, but I was at the 75th for both; I wasn't a splitter.

It seems that Cornell has managed to offend both those who received the invitation as well as those who didn't. Impressive

Ah, sorry for being unclear. My point was that they could be targeting lots of people with lower numbers, even splitters who would have one "good" number, because they think everyone who's not the "perfect" applicant could stand to gain from the program.

Will stop using "silly" quotation marks now.

Maybe I just didnt get it yet and I will receive it this week. I'm in TX. I'm curious as to how this is determined if it isnt offered to everyone. I'll already be up there so I would probably do it if I'm allowed....

No, you were clear. My point was that unless they consider the 75th "lower", which makes no sense, I didn't have lower numbers.

I am still stalling with the other place while I look for something closer (or at least on a bus line). Also, I am posting this from within the very walls of Myron Taylor Hall! (I am using one of the comps in the student lounge, where some dudes just finished some hearty-sounding lunches...)

They are doing all kinds of summer construction around campus, getting everything shiny for our arrival....

How difficult is it to find a place that allows dogs?

Anyone going to the academic orientation program 18-22 of August? I'll probably be there, just because my lease starts August 1, and I feel badly about paying for a place I'm not living in.

there are a handful of dog-friendly places, but me and the ladypal are pretty picky... And the more places I look at, the more inclined I am to suck it up and be ready to commute a little bit... The rental market here seems pretty one-dimensional (again, at least as far as poochables go)... sigh...

I did have some very helpful chats with different administratives, and I am a little less worried than I was before... Everyone else ready to move in?
