Another question -- I read in a recent mailing from the financial aid office that we shouldn't buy a computer before August 1 if we want to be reimbursed by federal loans for it. Are we to infer that it's OK to go ahead and buy one now? (There's a LSAT voice in my head yelling "no! no! no!")

On a related note, my LSAT alarm bells also blared during the federal loan entrance counseling quiz, which I think contains an error that will cause its takers to be scored incorrectly on one of its questions. I posted about it here: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 15&t=38593

Sorry if this seems totally lame.

Should you just call and ask if its ok to buy a computer and have them adjust your grad plus loans? Karla seems very helpful. I went ahead and bought mine. I didnt want to encourage myself to take out more loans for it.

I requested the adjustment on my loan application. Just emailed Karla about timing.

I did not get any sort of pass. My apartment is a 10 minute walk away with a free shuttle. Did you you all in a similar situation do the same thing?

Should I have gotten a ten day pass for emergencies?

Hey,

I was invited to that program as well, and I was wondering why I was invited. I emailed Patina Janisko and this is her reply:

Thank you for your e-mail. The academic orientation program that
you mention is designed primarily for minority and foreign students to
help them start networking before everyone else arrives. All the
activities are designed for these groups.

Thank you for checking with us and please feel free to
contact us if you have any further questions and we look forward to
seeing you this fall.

Patina Janisko

Does this make sense? Are the others of you who got assigned to this program minorities? Also, I read the letter they sent, and it said that the program included all people who checked that they wanted diversity considered as a part of their application were included, as well as a "few other individuals with interesting educational backgrounds." I don't know what this means. It still kind of sounds like its meant to be in some way remedial; otherwise, why would we be taking a test at the end of the week? I don't really have any idea why they would put me in a remedial program. I went to the University of Chicago; my GPA is above their 25-75 range and my LSAT was pretty good, though not in their 75th like the other person that posted.

Dude, calm down. "Remedial" is not the word.

I personally find the idea of getting feedback on a law school exam that is ungraded to be a good thing. Some lawl schools have that sort of thing for everyone. Cornell has simply decided that it isn't beneficial to everyone, and it's likely that they've notice that if they invite the whole class and it's optional, only about 1/3 of the class comes. Rather than wasting resources by inviting everyone, they have set it up to accommodate the typical number of people who would come, and then limited invitations to the ones they thought would make the most use out of it. If you really think you don't need it, don't go. Do something else that week - yay for you.

Lol...yeah, I think I already ran the gamut of feeling insulted, grateful, burdened, and then just happy to have the opportunity.

I stayed in the Valentine apts during the ASW. They seem pretty nice.

Meaning that you're allowed to borrow more?

I think I welcome disincentives to spending when that spending is pure debt and will have to be repaid with interest. Think of it like this -- every purchase you make (whether it's a beer, a movie, rent, etc.) costs you the sticker price plus interest that compounds yearly.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
