I know TLS is a much different place than it was last year, but has anyone checked out last year's counterpart to this thread?

And I was feeing bad that we're only at 29 pages.
At some point in these last 29 pages, was there not a goal to beat out the UVA '11 thread? --what, 300ish pages now?

I was feeling bad about only 29 too...but last year...wow. Apparently their facebook page had more activity than ours does though. At least that's what someone commented.
300+pages is a long way to go...

OK, so we're not first (in quantity), but we're a respectable third behind UVA and Michigan. It's OK -- we're still in a rebuilding phase this year.

Heh yea, someone said last year's group was "boppin'." So I guess they have that over us.LeahNic wrote:I was feeling bad about only 29 too...but last year...wow. Apparently their facebook page had more activity than ours does though. At least that's what someone commented.

I think our TLS group is pretty strong here. 29 ain't bad for a class of 190ish.

Finished it in a spout of boredom a few weeks ago. Why doesn't class start already, so we can get to the important stuff?

I started it?
Eh, it'll be done this week...I just have to set aside time to get it done.
Less than 3 weeks until orientation

Was bored, and so I read it. It's a decent read, but I somehow don't fancy reading something that will get only a few hours of talk time during Orientation.neskerdoo wrote:I've never heard that phrase...fsohn wrote:Finished it in a spout of boredom a few weeks ago. The idea of a campus-wide Reading Project is somewhat neat, but here in Chicago, we have a similar program run periodically through the public library, and it doesn't seem to do much. No one talks about "The Long Goodbye" any more than they talk about any other random book. Of course, the city is not really comparable as a community to Cornell, but it does beg some reflection as to what trying to get a large group of people to read the same book accomplishes.
Yes, my response sounds asinine even to me the more I read it. I need to get my mind on other things, productive things.

That'll do the trick. Shit's only like 150 pages once you remove all the appendices and epilogues.
