The response when you send in your photo includes
"This is the only response you will receive. If your photograph does not meet requirements, you will have an opportunity to take a new photograph during Orientation in August."
So I would imagine that you should probably try because I doubt the picture they take at orientation will be exactly what you may want, but probably not the end of the world if you can't get it to them.

I was going to send my passport pic. Now Im rethinking that because, like most passport pics, its a hot mess and doesnt comply with the measurement requirements (passport pics are cut 2x2, CLS wants 2 1/2 x 2).
Maybe I should just crop another pic..... hm...decisions, decisions...

From what I could tell they wouldn't take a passport-sized pic anyway- they wanted a scanned 3x5 or a 2000 mp digital picture...

I'm still waiting too, M! They're just saving the best for last.

ya, thats what I meant by measure requirements. It doesnt have to be 3X5; on the form we got in the binder it says it has to be 2 1/2 X 2.

I dont even know what 2000mp means....

The form I downloaded said 3x5, but the 2.5x2 makes more sense these days. Mp is megapixels, 2000 is a pretty high resolution assuming you're using a point and shoot camera and cropping the photo. I had a picture that I really wanted to use but it did not have enough megapixels, sadly. Oh well, it's impossible to beat my college ID for unflattering photos so I'm ahead there at least.

So I got my offer today- one room in a 2 bedroom apartment in the 500s on W 112th. The only problem is the move-in date is the 15th because of renovations :(. The guy at the housing office said he'd try to reassign me but I'm not optimistic about that, plus this apartment sounds great, so now I guess I have to find a place to stay for the 10th-15th and move in that weekend. Yuck. I'm trying to mitigate my panic by emailing everyone I know in New York to see if I can stay on their couch...

On the bright side, you'll love living on 112th. It's a GREAT location.

well I'm a bit confused about what they want for these pictures (yep, I'm doing this last minute, and should have asked them earlier, but I need to do this tonight)

1) if you submit a digital photo, they want 3"x5", which is pretty vertical, but if you submit a hard-copy, the minimum is 2"x2.5", which is a pretty different proportion. Does this make any sense? Any thoughts on the discrepancy?

2) they say the pic should be 300 dpi, and also "no less than 2000 pixels wide." Is DPI not the same as pixels per inch? If it is the same, wouldn't a 3" wide picture @300 dpi only be 900 pixels wide?

Sorry if I'm missing something major...

My impression of the requirements: if you have a photo printed on paper that you want to scan and submit electronically, it has to be 3x5 and scanned in at least at 300 dpi. If you have a picture taken with a digital camera, it has to be at least 2000 mp wide. If you have a physical photo to mail in, it has to be 2x2.5. So if you're working with just digital images, 2000 mp is the pertinent one.

its just interesting, b/c clearly all of these different options would yield pretty different sized photos. And one imagines they will crop them all to a set size/proportion. I would think that proportions would matter more than pixels wide for this, but oh well. I hope I don't send in a 3x5 and discover they've cropped the top of my head to make it the right proportions.

Exactly, I sent in a picture that I think is a good one that met their requirements as I interpreted them. Hope I don't get there and find some bizarrely cropped photo in the face book/whatever.

P.S: Anyone else on 115th street?

I went with unfurnished, right now I'm debating whether to bring my bed or sell it and buy a new one. If anyone knows a good mattress store with delivery in NY, please share.

yep, if your picture doesn't fit their reqs, or you just don't send one they'll just force you to take it at orientation. they won't actually crop your picture, stretch it, make the ID w/ the facebook question mark or anything like that.

no news from housing, anyone else STILL waiting or should I start asking around couchspace?

hey, I was just wondering how much rent one had to pay for these apartments; like the one you got offered, is okay for me to ask how much the rent is going to cost? I'm trying to figure out what the cheapest alternative is for living in NY. You can pm me if you'd prefer that.
