Blah, I have not started yet. I'm looking forward to a hellish Memorial Day weekend. What are our choices for lenders? T.H.E. or Access Group?

Yeah that is kinda messed up.the rza wrote:ah that sucks finch. did they actually tell you that you were 9th? that's a
little cruel...
I used an exact amount, though it sounds like I didn't have to. I applied about a month ago and still haven't heard anything, but I'm guessing they process everybody at once.the rza wrote:danko, when you filled out the PLUS application did you do all the calculations and request an exact amount? I read on GULC's page about GRADPlus loans that you can just enter "50,000" and they will do the calculations for you.
scoutfinch80 wrote:Yup. They were incredibly transparent about the process, which I appreciated at the time, but in the end it totally bummed me out.
I was first notified that I was one of 60 finalists out of 500 applicants. Then I was told that I was not accepted, but was on an "extremely short wait list." They noted in that email that they often go deep into the wait list (sometimes accepting everyone), because most of the first batch of accepted scholars will pass for the Root-Tilden or the Penn PI scholarship (which - I think - are both full tuition?).
So, Prof. Schrag let me know that I was 4th on the wait list. Then 3rd. Then 2nd. Then 1st. (As people dropped out.) But then, alas, the last person accepted the last slot, so there I was at number 9.
Oh well. I still think there are plentiful PI opportunities at GULC, so I am content! Losing out on the scholly money stings though!

Government does count as public interest, with the exception of clerkships.the rza wrote:does anyone know how you are supposed to fund your first summer if you are doing something public interest related? I know EJF gives out $3k grants, but that's not enough to live on for three months. more loans?
also, does gov't count as public interest?
It could happen, and I'm sure it has. Either way, we will all have great public interest opportunities in school and beyond. GULC has a stellar reputation in the DC public interest community. When I tell people I work with about my school plans, they practically start gushing. And these are people who graduated from Harvard and NYU.scoutfinch80 wrote: And, I was told that if someone for some reason abruptly decides not to go to law school anymore over the summer, the 8th spot is mine! this leads me to believe that the pool is always for lap swimming, which may be why you can't find the hours. I also like how they have basketball leagues, i'm in on that. The facilities at the Sport & Fitness Center include a lap pool, locker rooms with whirlpools, fitness area, fitness assessment room, two massage rooms, two group exercise studios, Spinning® studio, two racquetball courts, and 8,400 square feet of multi-purpose court for basketball and volleyball.
