What do you guys in DC think about places to look for apartments, and the metro? Is it okay to live 5 or so metro stops away, on the red line, or is that too far in terms of convenience and coming and going? How is everyone's apartment search going? oh the joys of moving...

Chill, are you from DC as well? I would love to go home and find this information sitting in my mailbox. What exactly is in the letter/packet/mailing?

Yup, I live near Lincoln Park near Eastern Market. In the packet is a letter from the registrar's office that tells you your section as well as some information about things that need to get done prior to registration. There's also a page about technology that gives you your Gocard number, email address and pw, and student access+ id and pw. Finally, there's a first year schedule for your section. It looks like you can determine 3 of your class days/times with the other two being determined at registration - your legal practice class and whatever your section's seminar class is (the potential times for those classes are listed as well). I'm not sure if other sections have their small sections fall or spring semester. I do know that 9 o'clock Friday morning class for me fall semester = booooo.

Heading home now, and crossing my fingers that a) my packet arrived; and b) I am in section 3...

Do they choose section 3-ers by lottery or by merit?

They try to get everyone in who requested it. If there's more spots than requested it's a lottery I was told.

Section 3 is the one section that teaches an alternative curriculum (Curriculum B). This curriculum was launched in the early 90s by a group of "renegade" students and professors who wanted to seek an alternative to traditional legal education, which is known to be fairly rigid and uniform at law schools across the country.

Curriculum B studies the law in the broader context of political theory, philosophy, history, etc. It is rumored to have more reading, but the reading is generally viewed as "more interesting," because it consists of more than just cases. It is also rumored to attract students who are one or more of the following: 1) creative/"artsy"; 2) older (i.e., not right from undergrad; 3) public interest-oriented.

The curriculum for section 3 is only different for 1L. 2L and 3L follow the same traditional curriculum.

Also, interesting to note that a lot of TLS-ers (as well as many folks on the GULC 2011 Facebook discussion board) signed up for section 3.

Question for you admitted folks:

I heard somewhere that first year tuition for you all is due around July 25th, is that correct? Also, I assume that is non-refundable, and that late-tuition payment is not an option?

So does this mean that GULC will know for sure by July 25th who is attending and who is not? (this would give us folks on the wait list a date to pay attention to)

Section 3! Woo! :D

By the way, I loathe our email addresses. Wouldn't it have been more intuitive to just have our addresses be first initial, last name @law.georgetown.edu? What's with the initials/numbers mumbo-jumbo? :?

Yeah, you and 5,000 other Georgetown students (including I) have complained about it.

It doesn't stop there; just wait until you see your mailbox quota. It is 20MB for undergraduates.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Yes, our fall semester tuition is due 7/25. I guess it's non-refundable, although I'm not sure. I mean, you always hear stories about people getting pulled from wait lists in the days before registration...how would this be possible if they already paid non-refundable tuition somewhere else?

I was totally going to ask if my address could be changed...but I guess that would be pointless, huh? I don't get it. Their professors and employees have logical email addresses.

20MB is ridiculous. Emmy, did you pretty much rely on an alternative personal email account during your undergrad years? I was going to make my GULC address my primary one, but now I'm thinking I'll continue to have friends and family email me at my gmail account.

Using your Georgetown email as primary is suicide.

I set up e-mail forwarding, so that all my Georgetown e-mail was forwarded to my gmail account. That way, I could give anyone my georgetown email address: whenever my inbox filled up, I would just delete everything, but would still have a back up record of everything in my gmail.

I think you can set things up online through UIS.

I don't know how it goes for law students though. I think you all get 40mb?

Georgetown is upgrading the e-mail system, but I think it's time frame is along the 2 year span.
