pretty sure it's just random
I know some students think sections are stacked via entering LSAT/gpa, whether or not it's true I don't know. J-Rod remember at ASW the Federalist Society guy telling us he was in the "scholarship" section while his roommate was kickin a$$ and taking names in the "waitlist" section? I don't know if that's legit at all, but I've heard other students express the same sentiment.

yeah, I do remember that guy . . . I dunno . . . I'd think you might get more scholarship students in one or two sections, and a higher percentage of waitlist students in another, but that might just be random . . . and then then students dubbed these sections accordingly once they all found out

For the university to assume that one group of students will be smarter and perform better than another group at their school . . . based on all accepted students would be pretty ridiculous

Which would be more fair: putting all the 172+ together to let them duke it out amongst themselves, and leaving the 16x state kids together so at least a few can rise to the top? Or would it be more fair having each section with a mix of highest, median, and lowest scorers?

At the end of the year aren't are 1L grades pooled for class ranking purposes anyway?

I'd add that the 1st year classes aren't really 30-35 person sections, but 100 person sections since that's what the classes are, and that's what I'd think any grading curve would be based on. So, regardless of the grouping of a section, I think it all evens out anyway.

I know that at other universities that have scholarships contingent upon being in a certain portion of the class that they stack sections but I don't know why UVA would need to do that.

However if they do, I think that all of the in-state kids should be together. That would be the most fair to me.

This is the best idea I have had since I quit using psychadelic drugs:

If CBS will pay 2.4 million for a damn widescreen and a puny extension on the athletics conract...What do you think Fox would pay for a show about the scandalous lives of 1L students and the academical and social hijinx they find themselves in on thier path to becoming corporate slaves. I bet full rides for all of us in exchange for a little self-respects and dignity.

Whose going to make some bad decisions with me...
Nipple, Glad, Jrod, and Bilko I know y'all are in. What say you grey, doublehoo, and wes and khordis.

As for the lovely ladies: you have to come becuase without you we def won't be able to sell this to the network.

Also, in response to the earlier posts about class sections: Would you rather play in the Southern Conference or the SEC...my ideas of fair involve sections which yield as close a possible rankings as what would happen if we were all one section.

I saw your post in the other section, but I'll reply here.

To me, this is really Biglaw vs. Other law. By that I mean, unless your pretty sold that your going to do/want to do BigLaw, I'm not sure I truly see the benefit of UVA. The fact is, and some may disagree, that is really what UVA is best at in the short term. I'm sure many of us have different career goals and things we'd like to do, but ultimately 75% of us will start out working in some law firm, and most in BigLaw firms.

If that's not your bag off the jump, maybe take the $.

That said, some math:

C'Ville>>>> Austin (because I said so)
UVA>>>> UT (because I said so)
UT athletics>>>> UVA (but you're a grad student, you don't care- besides I know you're used to rooting for shitty sports teams :P )

tough decision. if you plan on staying in texas, i'd say go for it. you could invest whatever is left over after paying living expenses...

virginia definitely gives you more options in terms of big law opportunities and diversity of locations; however, passing up on a full scholly is hard. talk to gladiator, he might have some insight, he passed up a sweet ucla full scholly.

i'm in as long as they blur my face out the entire time. and they have to scramble my voice. also, they have to bleep out everything i say. and they need to put those black bars over my nipples. most importantly, I want script approval when it gets made into a movie. and a sandwich.

are we talking full frontal, kevin bacon in wild things-style? if i'm putting myself out that far out there, i'm going to need a lot more than a sandwich. i'll need to see some foie gras or pot roast...something really good before i even think of dropping the towel. at the very least, a panini might get you some arnold-walking-away-from-the-camera-as-he-looks-out-across-the-city-at-the-beginning-of-the-terminator action.

Certainly different standards will apply...I'll know foie gras when I see it. For the right show, a Daniel Boulade burger might be in order.
