You can only get your COA raised for medical expenses and other demonstrated need (ie if you're a single parent).
If you need more money you're going to have to take out a private loan - so no need to contact UVA.
I know you're living in Avemore also. Are you taking out additional private loans to cover your extra expenses? If so, what lenders? I hear Bank of America is commonly used.

What are you all doing for your computer? I have a horrible laptop right now, so no matter what, I'm buying a new one. However, I dislike Vista and Word 2007 (from my limited experience with the former and more extensive experiene with the latter), which gives me pause about buying one of the bundle computers (I won't consider using a Mac). Then again, tech support would be nice, since I have a tendency to kill my computers yearly. The possibility of getting a loaner laptop would also be good, but I can also bring my crappy laptop as a backup. Thoughts?

I got a super-deal on a refurb laptop through my school so I bought that for school as required. As you mention, I have my old (5 years old, CD drive doesn't work, parts of the CPU are exposed, etc.) computer as a backup so I'm not worried about loaners, etc. in case something comes up. Sounds like a relatively similar situation to you. I also have a desktop that will hopefully reduce/eliminate wear-and-tear on either of my laptops.shadowfish wrote:What are you all doing for your computer? I also thought I'd mention that my dad seems to think that my laptop will get crushed by my law school books if I have a laptop with a plastic case. WTF?
I have 2 desktops, but I wasn't going to bother to bring them. Maybe I will, but I don't know if I really have enough space for an extra computer, a new laptop, and an old failure laptop. My desktops all need to be reformatted because they're virus-laden, anyways.

Is a new laptop a requirement? My laptop is two years old but still works well except for the battery which can be easily replaced. I don't really feel like getting a new one unless its required for something like taking exams or some other random law school thing.

not a requirement so long as your current laptop is wireless ready, and has all the necessary software

I haven't been around lately because of finals and graduation, but all that's over as of today.

I dunno. I get 20/hr now with full benefits, etc. As a waiter I probably made about the same in mostly cash, but w/o benefits.

It's definitely been to quiet around here. I've missed my usual distraction from work. It will be very nice to meet everyone this fall. How many sentences can I write using the same structure?

I made minimum wage last summer working in a law firm. It kind of pissed me off. I should've gotten a better job. >:/

I make $.50 over minimum wage right now workin on cars . . . but it keeps me busy, and I love cars, and I only have to do it for another 2 months, so no big deal.
Perhaps I will sell my services to law students at UVA who need oil/tranny fluid/spark plug changes, tire rotations, etc. The simple things I can do w/out a lift and air-tools.

Out of curiousity for a friend applying next cycle:
Do DC residents count towards in-state for UVA?
