Yeah, I didn't go last year, but I had a lot of friends graduating this year. It was a nice ceremony (if a little long). Weird, though. It's all starting to seem very real.

Just accepted Michigan's offer. I am so excited about Ann Arbor and Michigan Law. Thought I was headed to UVa for a second.. sigh of relief..

Yea, Lothar, I've been known to dabble in poker here and there. I prefer stud games, dealer's choice, laid back kind of games.

If I have enough time, I was thinking about starting a bridge club at Michigan. I've never played bridge, but it sounds like it would be an excellent thing to bring back in style. Maybe we'll start a card games club and be more general, thus including poker.

but I hadn't found that there's a bridge club for the Law School specifically. Starting an informal Law Student card games get together/club would be a good idea. I'm all for the Euchre!

I'm really interested in the Michigan Poker League though (cited in my above post), especially since they are a chapter of that Harvard Law academic poker society (also cited above)...attending poker conferences would be cool

I pmed you more details but for anyone else curious, here's some info I gleaned from the admitted students website:

2008 Michigan Football Season Tickets

Incoming grad students may order University of Michigan 2008 football season tickets online beginning June 9, 2008 through June 27, 2008. A season ticket is $185.00 plus $10.00 service charge and the 2008 football season t-shirt may be ordered for an additional $10.00.

To order visit http://www.mgoblue.com/tickets (Buy Tickets Online). Click on New Student Football Season Tickets then choose Register Now to set up your online account.

(there's more specific info on how to get tickets for the Law student section)

If you get yourself a season ticket for the law student section, how easy is it to get single tickets for visitors when they come? Can they sit with you in the law student section?

I think student tickets can be transferred, but a fee must be paid or a valid student ID borrowed.

Fear not, there is a thriving trade in illicit student ticket sales on the law school listserv. You can basically always get an extra ticket or two, but some games will cost you a lot more than others. And your guest needs a UofM student ID to get in with a student ticket, so you can either a) exploit one of the many loopholes in the system and hope for the best, or b) pony up some extra money to have the ticket validated ahead of time.

Yeah, this season it was $27 to validate, so it brought the total value of a validated student ticket to $50.

They changed the policy this year and now incoming grad students are given lowest priority, even below incoming undergrads. It seems like it will be difficult to get an extra ticket, expecially with the new validation B.S.

No... they tried doing that, but there was uproar. It's based on how many hours you have. So 1Ls are like freshmen. 2Ls are approximately like sophomores, etc.

What is new about the validation process? Have they changed it?

Oh good so now we are equal with the 18 year olds! I think the policy is you have to pay $27 per ticket and have it validated before the game and then everyone has to have their ID. So i guess it really isn't that much work.

That's not new... you realize that's just for people who don't have student IDs, right? It brings the cost up to $50 per ticket for people who want to enter on a student ticket without being a student.

Lukey, what I did for my husband for next year is find a friend who wasn't going to buy tickets and bought them through her. We'll have to get them validated for him, since he's not a student.

Even before, when we could just buy his ticket through the school, the cost was the same. It was just that they essentially rolled the price for validation into the initial purchase.

so i'm a lil' confused...

you can buy a student ticket for a non-student, and then just pay an upcharge, and that process is called 'validating'? Did I understand that correctly?

So I find someone at Mich Law that isn't a football fan; then pay him/her to buy a ticket on behalf of my significant other, then pay an upcharge so she can get in?

Damn...I have so many people asking me to buy extra tickets for them. I guess I need to start making the phone calls of disappointment...
