So, I'm interested and was going through the UVA list of external scholarships.

I'm noticing a lot of $1,000, 1-3 page essay scholarships from various law firms around the country. But almost all of the ones I'm talking about have the same opening statement, which is roughly:

LAW FIRM is pleased to announce a scholarship available to students anticipating attending school in the fall of 2015. The $1,000 scholarship is intended to help defray first-year expenses for students that have been accepted into an school anywhere in the United States.

http://www.dgglaw.com/scholarship-application/

What's up with that? Are they legit? Are they at all connected? Can I send the same essay to all of them?

It seems the ability to hide behind anonymity encourages you to disrespect others. From the limited facts you know about me, you've already deemed it appropriate to make vast assumptions about my life and character. I'm not going to be rude back to you, but you don't know much about me, so please stop assuming things. If you can help it, please refrain from being so mean to people.

I don't know about those specific ones, but some firm scholarships require that you dedicate a summer internship or associate position to them. The ones for 2Ls and 3Ls may sometimes require accepting a full-time job offer from the firm. It's just something to be wary of.
