Negotiating with Chicago

Post by hitherim » Wed Feb 18, 2015 12:22 am

So it's been about 7 weeks since Chicago accepted me, and its been radio silence on the financial aid end.
I've got a $$$$ offer from UVA that I'd like to use to see how much I can get from Chicago.
Is it time to send an email to Chicago or if I should be waiting for them to reach out first?
I just submitted FAFSA and Need Access this weekend, so if that means anything - I'm not sure what Chicago's deal is on requiring that or not.

I believe Chicago says they give you news of financial aid within 2 weeks of submitting the appropriate forms.

I would wait for that 2 weeks to pass anyway.

There's a pretty formal process and a standard form you'll fill out appealing your financial aid decision--they'll notify you of that after you get your initial award. In that form, there's a section where you can list other offers you have (and I have a feeling that section is the most important w/r/t whether or not your aid award increases)
