Negotiating with NYU
So from what I've seen on TLS trying to negotiate with NYU is a long shot anyway but...
I received the 62,500 award from NYU, 75 if I do PI but I don't see myself doing that. I was originally going to just use my 120,000 at Duke as leverage but just received 75 from Chi. Is this worth mentioning? Chi is much more of a "peer" for NYU but since their award is only slightly larger than NYU's would that just make them think they offered me the correct amount in the first place and make them less inclined to negotiate?
Any help with this is much appreciated!

Re: Negotiating with NYU
I would use both offers. Chicago's is still more than theirs and like you said they are considered peers so NYU may pay more attention to it (although I only used lower-ranked schools and still received an increase). Best of luck!

Who did you guys speak with at NYU?
I emailed Joel, and he emailed me to call him. I did call and it went to voicemail, and then he never returned my call. Is there a specific form I should fill out? Thanks!

I emailed Joel and he added a tab called my appeal to the financial aid website. I tried to negotiate with $150,000 from NU and $120,000 from Michigan and they wouldn't give me any money.

I am also appealing now as well. Anyone have an idea of how soon they get back to you? Also, do they ever rescind their awards or lower the amount? That's become a paranoid concern of mine recently.

I want to say it took me about 2-3 weeks but not exactly sure.
Probably won't happen, no worries.

Has anyone negotiated with a Columbia offer yet? I just submitted mine on 4/10. Interested to see how this works out given all of the talk about them not negotiating with each other.

Re: Negotiating with NYU
bah!
Got my reconsideration e-mail today. It was politely declined with the advice to borrow more.
For information:
I asked for reconsideration on Tuesday, April 8th at around 10am. The appeal button appeared on the site immediately. I submitted my appeal by noon, Tuesday. They just got back to me on Friday, April 12th just a few minutes ago.
They are certainly speeding things up from the previous estimate of 2-3 weeks.

Thanks for reporting back! Glad to hear they're moving quickly.

Email first and then they'll activate the "My Appeal" tab on the financial aid portal.

thanks! do we send an appeal-like email with details are just say we want to appeal, and the appeal itself is where you put details or anything?

Yeah, I would just send a general email saying you would like to appeal your award, and then on the portal, you can put in your full statement and then attach any documents, etc.

Used 60k at University of Chicago as leverage. Submitted my appeal on April 11th and got my NYU scholarship increased to 60k (50K) today!

Re: Negotiating with NYU
Quick question - has anyone tried to go back to NYU a second time, and ask for a second appeal? They denied my first appeal but at that time I hadn't heard from Berkeley about a matching scholarship yet. Now I have a scholarship from Berkeley and have a weird (maybe misguided?) feeling they might weigh that more heavily than the other offers I previously appealed with. Wanted to see if anyone has experience asking for a second appeal, and if so, how you went about it. Thanks!

I was denied the first time (didn't really have any competing offers at the time) and went back a second time with my $40k offer from Columbia and nyu raised mine to $50k from $37.5k.
