Similar Ranked Schools with Similar Scholarship

Postby RedTiger56 » Mon Mar 11, 2013 5:03 pm

Hey guys, I know there are tons of questions about negotiating scholarships, but I don't recall running into an answer for my question. I've been admitted and have received similar scholarships (within a thousand or two) from three schools that are ranked pretty close together. (but in different geographic locations). I'm not sold on a single school, and I have different reasons for liking each of them, but there isn't much separating their ranking+scholarship combinations.

Cost is an issue for me (paying through some saving and the rest through loans), but I can't really say one school offered much more money than the other because its very minor (compared to 45k tutition). How do I word an email or phone call politely asking to reconsider my offer so I will be more likely to attend law school this year.

Thank you for any help.

Be genuine. If all offers are similar focus on the cost of living in the areas(i.e: If your top school costs more to live in the surrounding area, express how that will make it a tough financial decision to attend their school). If money really is the only thing holding you back, explain how at this time you are very debt averse and the financial cost to attend will be your biggest factor in deciding. Depending on the schools and your numbers, this should be an effective way in increasing the money they are offering. The worst they could say to you is no, so it is always worth a shot to try to ask for more.
