I wasn't myself in this situation, but I have a good friend from law school who was, and they had success in clearing everything outstanding -- they negotiated settlements with all their charged off accounts (I think they basically offered lower amounts and were pretty successful). It's terrible for their credit report (charge off's aren't good) but "adverse credit history" doesn't mean low credit score for grad plus purposes. It may require borrowing money from someone, but you'll then be allowed to take out grad plus loans the entire time you're in law school.
