Post by drbarry987 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 11:54 am

I owe some in federal loans from UG. Currently in repayment as I graduated UG two years ago. Going to LS in the fall. When is the soonest I can defer these loans? Anyone have any experience with this? tyia

Another option if you don't qualify for deferment is to ask to place your loans into forbearance until you start law school.

They didn't let me defer until September. The school had to provide notice that I was a student and they wouldn't do this until mid-September. I had a year off after undergrad.

A lot of schools will do so automatically shortly after school starts. I was out of school since 2004 and it wasn't a problem. But you could contact your school to find out how their process works.
