Possible Change in Professional/Grad Student Federal Loans?

I received an e-mail from a law school that I was accepted to, stating the following: "Due to a possible change in legislation for Graduate and Professional Federal student loans, we have delayed our financial aid awarding."

They say they hope to give info out in April. What is this possible change? Does anyone know?

Thanks

It was announced at the IU-Bloomington ASW that subsidized Stafford loans for beyond undergrad are probably going away due to the budget crisis. Their financial aid guy said to go ahead and max those out if using them at all, especially if it's an option for law school summer start programs (your aid determination is based on what you might have used this school year for summer, not what it will be starting in fall). That's the only thing I can think it might be. They are probably waiting to see if they have to offer you a large unsubsidized Stafford, Grad Plus loans, etc.

At UT, the budget debate in the state has caused them to delay giving any need grants out until summer, but they did offer a complete loan package.
