Fill out the FAFSA?

Post by ivantheterbl » Thu Jan 20, 2011 12:36 pm

So I am still claimed by my parents on their income taxes as a dependent, and knowing their income I am 99% sure I will receive no need based aid from any schools. I definitely want to be considered for merit based aid at all schools, but iirc the FAFSA is not needed in order to be considered. Basically my questions is whether or not there would be any reason to fill out the FAFSA if there is essentially no chance of receiving need based aid (idk if it is still needed for anything else, does it help with merit based aid, etc)

I'm in same situation. If you will take loans, fill out the FAFSA. If not, don't. I plan to not take out any loans, so I'm not going to fool with it.

So if you end up having to take out loans you need to have it filled out?

For federal loans, yes, you need to fill out FAFSA.
