Ok, so I applied for Grad Plus, and was denied on my own (I have horrific credit, was expecting this). Asked my dad to cosign, he agreed. He lives in NJ, I live in Chicago, so unfortunately, I can't hover over him to make him actually fill out the paperwork. Worrying that he said he cosigned and hasn't gotten info back yet, but really just hasn't and is being a d-bag (which has kind of been his M.O. since my childhood). If he's pulling this crap, I would've rather him just have said no two months ago when I asked him, so I could figure something else out, but this is my situation now.

My main question: how long do I have to nail down Grad Plus before it's just really too late for fall semester? I'm slowly giving myself a panic attack over here.

Just tell him what's up. I have the same relationship with my dad and had a similar problem in UG. He was never approved, but if he was It would be similar to what you are experiencing. But seriously, bitch until he does it or ask for his information to do it.

I have his info...tempted to just log in and do it, but I don't know if he already did and I'm just being a mega-bitch. You think there's a way for me to find out if I log in as him?

I should also admit that he's avoiding my phone calls....ugggggggh. I honestly don't know how my mom puts up with him at times.

I accidentally forgot to fill out a significant part of my graduate PLUS loans and wound up doing it in late July after the financial aid office contacted me... so you're not screwed yet.

Update on this: talked to my mom, told her the situation, she said she was "shocked", and she said she was going to have him call me ASAP. This was earlier today (around 2 or 3). It's now 10:30 on the east coast. He won't be calling tonight.

My plan: give him ALL DAY tomorrow, which will be one month to the day of me giving him the necessary information to fill out the endorser form thing (he agreed to cosign over 2 months ago, but he had the goods to actually complete his part mid-May). If he doesn't fill it out/call me/SOMETHING tomorrow, I'm signing in and doing it myself. And if he flips out, he can shove it up his ass. Shouldn't have given me his info then.

Thoughts?

EDIT: This, then, will give me a full month to find a new cosigner if, for some reason, he is rejected.

Why not just ask him if you can login with his info and fill it out yourself?

Why not just ask him if you can login with his info and fill it out yourself?

I want to do this...he hasn't answered nor returned my phone calls in over a week now. I get the feeling he's avoiding me...

UPDATE: My father FINALLY called me back (no apology...nice) but had me do all the paperwork and all on my comp. Everything is submitted and from what I could see he was approved!

Now I can enjoy my summer. Phew.

Congrats. I'm not getting a co-signer, but this makes me glad that my parents are hyper-responsible, anal-retentive freaks who plan everything about six months in advance.

My parents used to be like that, NB...I mean, my dad was a CPA. He retired, so I guess now he just doesn't give a flying rat's ass. That's what was most frustrating about the entire thing.

Oh, and he blamed me about not calling him enough. Ummm, excuse me? Check your damn call log on your cell? Good lord...

I'm just glad it's all sorted out...I was about to lose it today. Had heavy alcohol with lunch, that's the point I was at. On a Tuesday. Glad I can sober up now and be happy.

Mine was the letter I got saying I got accepted for 50 thousand dollars in loans. And that doesn't even cover the 20K in Stafford Loans. FML

Just curious, would your parents sign for you if you had asked them? Put all the negativity against law school aside. In fact, pretend it was for some kind of engineering degree, would you have asked and do you think they would have?


I know Dave Ramsey is very anti co-sign.... but if my daughter (she's 5 now, so I have time) asked, I don't know if I could ever say no.

you never know.. if she grows up to be as miserable and bitter as Mtal you might at least think twice..
