hey everyone ! pretty new to this thread and, like everyone else, I also got an interview invitation and was wondering exactly what it meant? Is this an assurance that you are selected as part of the program or is it just the second round of applications?

For reference, I am still waiting to hear back from schools (took the Dec LSAT) so i left that portion blank and, also, I just submitted everything last week, so I was surprised by the invite, so is this also a good sign?

thanks!

An interview is a good sign. From my understanding, not everyone is extended an interview.

However, just because you get one, it doesn't mean you're in. Still have to knock out the interview AND get into some dece schools.

Due to ASW schedules I’m trying to decide between multiple cities and choose which ASWs I actually should be attending, this became rather abruptly stressful.

Any idea what percentage of interviewees are ultimately chosen?

This might be a dumb question -- but is preferred interview location the same as your preferred placement? I assumed it wasn't when I selected my interview location (I'm still in college so I selected what was most convenient for me now), but I would love to do SEO this summer in DC and live at home nearby to save $$.

CONGRATS! For those who have received invitations to interview, how early did you apply? Wondering if the invitations are rolling. Thanks!

Correct.

I'm pretty sure where you interview is not indicative of where you want/will be placed.

Thanks! I got notification that I my application was complete in mid December. By notification I mean I asked if it was complete/they received it. They let me know that they did.

I saw that the pay was 1,100- 1,500 do seo alum know if the lower end is for lower COL cities and 1500 is for nyc/LA/SF. It’s also probably firm specific, just wondering if someone knows

Got an interview request. Have to do it via Skype.

Applying to the scholarship as well.

Still do not know if logistically the program is feasible for me, given having to go to NY then prob to Chicago and back home west between the end of the internship and the start of LS. :|

I have read that there could be anywhere from 500-1000 applicants, but since an interview is required that might cut down the number of people being seriously considered significantly. Maybe 250? Giving each of us good odds if you successfully complete the interview and don't pee your pants?

Does where you interview have any effect on where you get placed geographically? Right now, I live closer to Chicago, but I'll be leaving my job before law school and moving back in with my parents near Boston. I saw that the interviews in Boston take place at Ropes & Gray, and it's kind of a dream of mine to work there. Would it be worth making a short trip home to interview in the location I hope to be placed?

Congrats on all of your interviews!

I mentioned this to a couple of people through DMs but just a couple of things:
- $1100-1500 salary is on some pay scale that is completely the discretion of law firms. There was an anecdote going around that if you're one of the few SEOs at a firm (looking at TX, OH, and CA people), you're probably going to be making that full amount. No idea if this is true or not. If finances are a concern, you can ask SEO for a short-time loan if necessary and SEO did give out three scholarships at the end of our SEO NYC training. (I'm guessing they applied because their bios were read out - scholarships ranged from $1000 to $10,000.)
- SEO is extremely good at preparing you for law school. You'll be stepping onto campus having connections with a Big Law firm that knows who you are, have had the opportunity to network broadly, are part of the SEO network, get a SEO mentor who will tell you how to email people, and it'll help you out job-wise as a 1L.
- If you are concerned about $ (completely understandable), once again... Perhaps try choosing cities close to/where you will be going to school. No matter what you decide to do, its probably going to be chaotic. Some firms may help you "travel" to the city (e.g. you're a HYS student that will be a SEO Fellow in NYC) and most firms will cover your time spent during SEO's NYC institute. (Again, completely at firm discretion). I know there would be people who would want to disagree with me, but I would be willing to take out a loan to make it work for a short term summer. If someone had told me that a year ago I probably would have thought they were crazy, but seriously. SEO is not really about the money but the number of doors that will open once you say you're SEO (especially in NYC) or that you "clerked at insert Big Law firm" before 1L.
- As much as SEO Law does, it's a very small team that is putting this on. No one can say with confidence how many people are interviewed but chances are, you have a good chance to get in if you are being invited to interview. Just don't be weird and have rational answers to questions.

I'm also interviewing in April! I'm wondering if this will negatively affect our application. Don't we get an official decision in late April?
