Priority Reserve at Duke....sigh
Dont know what else I could have done except get a higher LSAT.

I really really wanted them too. As it stands I might just save up and get a admission consulting service because I dont want to go through this again.

I went to UH for undergrad and currently live in Houston, so I never feel like a minority wherever I go. When I grew up in Michigan it was different. I lived in a white neighborhood and went to a primarily white school system. It was fine for elementary and stuff, but in middle school and high school it was a bit difficult. I'm a male MA and have brown skin, but I guess my facial characteristics to a lot of people made me appear if I was from the middle east. I experienced various degrees of racism intended for a different race, and it hurt. It's difficult to talk about it.

Anyways I don't want to experience that again, or feel like how I did back then. I just want to go to a school where I can find people to relate to. Sorry for the depressing post, just really had to get it off my chest.

I feel this so heavy. I'm Latina and from Los Angeles so I've always been surrounded by people like me but I went to school in Oregon for undergrad for one year and was so miserable.

I went from being part of a cultural majority to feeling so alienated because of my race I could hardly stand it! I faced microaggressions nearly every day and the occasional blatantly racist comment.

It was very difficult for me. I ended up transferring back to a school in Los Angeles because I was depressed! Racism takes a huge toll on our psyche. It's definitely difficult to quantify when you talk to non-URM about what factors took a toll on your educational trajectory but it's a big deal.

I had to take a long hard look at the schools I wanted to apply to and only ended up applying to schools in big cities with large diverse populations.

It seriously matters.

I've taken some solace in the fact that a lot of law schools, especially T14s, seem to have really strong black student associations. I'm not sure if that's the same for you guys, but I'd definitely see if you can get in touch with people who are in the group, or even just minorities on campus, and see what they say about it. I know the person I interviewed with for NU was in BLSA and she said that it's nice because other BLSA members who may not even know you will be like "Hey, I know you're in your first year here. How's everything going?" and a friend who attends Michigan (which I'm iffy about because of location and lack of diversity) said that even though it's very white there, the black students tend to stick together and it's like an unwritten rule that if you see another black student you at least say hey.

Will there be any way to see URM specific data?

I was hoping for more of a breakdown of how URMs specifically performed.

I am looking at the MS9 data from last year, and it looks like URM applicants shoot up a LOT between late February and June. Almost twice as many applicants later in the cycle than early on. There's an increase for white applicants as well, but it's not as marked.

==error==/2015-1 ... 2-24-2016/

Black or African American 4,537 -5.4%
Hispanic/Latino 4,501 6.0%
Puerto Rican 846 3.3%
American Indian or Alaska Native 772 -2.9%

==error==/2015-1 ... s-of-6-24/

Black or African American 8,021 -2.6%
Hispanic/Latino 7,040 7.6%
Puerto Rican 1,578 -7.1%
American Indian or Alaska Native 1,196 -2.4%

Does this mean URM students are not applying to top schools, seeing as those schools' application deadlines would have mostly passed after March?

Hm... It's possible. I think a lot of URMs usually have lower LSATs/GPAs (or at least I know I do! Lol) so maybe they assume they can't get in to T14s?

For sure, there's definitely some self-selection going on!

I had a HARVARD interview yesterday and I don't feel too good about it. The interview was rushed because my interviweer was late and we were only able to speak for 10 minutes. I wanted to see how much of a deal breaker is the interview

Don't worry! From what the thread says its a basic "is this person crazy/weird/crazy-weird" test. I am sure you did fine.
