Too long, too descriptive, and too much exposition. I lost my interest a couple of paragraphs in and didn't want to keep going. Start was honestly just odd. A diversity statement doesn't need to be like metafiction and acknowledge itself. Make the story your only focus. Really should only have 1 double spaced page for this. Make the beginning for interesting and everything should be very specific to you.
