Your "sad situation" elicits very little sympathy from me at this point. You are willfully ignorant and dangerously stubborn, and you're being very dismissive towards the people you asked for advice.

Also, I had loads of CC credit from way back when, so all I need to do to get the AA is do the certificate courses.

At the end of the day, a law license is a law license. It's not like LSOP students take a different bar exam.
Essentially, you're calling Abraham Lincoln dumb.

Your argument is invalid. You cannot compare how Lincoln became a lawyer (and he was a great one) to how lawyers are accredited now. The ABA didn't even exist until 1878.TSLexi wrote:I could not care less about how my attorney got his or her license. At the end of the day, it's about branding. A potential client isn't gonna give a shit that you graduated with less debt than that Harvard JD who can't write his way out of a paper bag.
Your only option if you go this route is to be a Better Call Saul. If you don't know what that is, find out -- it'll be a better use of your time than whatever moronic thing you're thinking of doing.

Here is my sad situation:
Up until June, I was studying for a BSc in Microbiology with Immunology at University of Leeds. In my penultimate year, I came out as MTF. I began my transition, and I was doing quite well in my studies, and my social group was pretty accepting. My goal was to become a biotech patent attorney.
Unfortunately, when I told my parents, they freaked out, stopped funding my degree, and took my hormones, make-up kit, hair extensions, etc. Luckily, they haven't kicked me out, and they are willing to pay for me to get my ABA-accredited paralegal AA degree at my local community college, Cerritos College. So there's that to be thankful for.
Since my program includes work experience, my goal is to get hired at one of the firms I extern at, retransition, and engage in the Law Office Study Program to become a licensed attorney.
So I have a few questions:
1. How is the job market for paralegals?
2. Law Office Study Program...if you had a fresh UCLA grad vs a person who read law while working as a paralegal and passed the bar, who would you hire?
3. For a few months in Leeds, I worked as an independent high-class escort (desperation for money and loneliness). I was pretty successful, and I learned a lot of transferable business skills (marketing, customer management, etc.) I think I should keep that under wraps, but honesty is very important in business, especially in the practice of law, since anyone can find out everything about you these days. I would not want to hire someone who kept secrets from me.
Whatever advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lexi

LOL... Yes, because the legal system and legal education system today are so similar to Lincoln's time.TSLexi wrote:I could not care less about how my attorney got his or her license. Talk about a massive is/ought gap here. Nobody gives a shit that you think it should be like X or Y. The bottom line is that where you go to school matters, whether you like it or not. I'm sure all the kids at Cooley think its BS that they're passed over for Michigan students, but guess what? Too bad for them. The game is what it is.
Your plan is atrocious. Go get loans (which YES, you can do if you're an American citizen), finish your degree, avoid the paralegal certificate, and definitely don't do this "reading the law" plan.

You've pretty clearly already made up your mind. Just go for it. You could be the next Abe Lincoln. There is absolutely no way that this ends poorly for you.
But seriously, how was the escort business?

Pretty fun, sometimes really annoying (nobody read my ad prior to calling, apparently), made some good cash. The multiple hour clients treated me like a queen. I loved it when they treated a session like a date.TheWeeIceMon wrote:You've pretty clearly already made up your mind. Just go for it. You could be the next Abe Lincoln.
