Okay, so finally back from LA after about one million flights.

Anyway, I must say I really enjoyed myself this weekend. I don't know if anyone else went, but I felt the diversity weekend was a great experience. The BLSA dinner kicked off the events for some of the admitted students. The dinner included a bunch of alumni, current students, professors, and a 9th circuit judge I believe. The event wasn't really for admitted students, so there wasn't a lot there. It was mostly to honor current alumni. They touched on the racial issues on campus, the 33 video, and the efforts that the campus was taking to handle these issues. The dean also spoke on the racial issues on campus, and some programs that she was piloting as a result. I personally talked to and picked the brains of quite a few students that were in the 33 video. Everyone's experience was different which is all I'll really say on it. Then I met some people of color who said they didn't have any of those experiences and it seemed to be section dependent.

The rest of the week included the events that you'll probably get at every diversity weekend from schools. A tour of decent parts of the city, dinners, law school tours, talking to current students, talking about loans and COA, partying, drinking, and a bunch of crap that I won't bore any of you with. Their BLSA is awesome by the way.

All in all, I think going there and speaking to current black students in and out of the 33 video definitely eased my concerns about the atmosphere at UCLA a bit. At first I was discounting them just based on that, but I can say now that's not really the case. The thing I liked the most was that none of the students I talked to beat around the bush or tried to give me this "Oh UCLA is perfect and happy and everything is great" BS.

Just got waitlisted at Penn....will definitely ride out their list. Two more to go. I hope this ends soon enough for me to actually have time to think through my decision before I make a deposit.

Thanks for sharing. I really want to stay in Cali so UCLA is one of my top choices if the money is right. I was worried about everything that was reported but this has definitely eased my concerns.

Are they doing follow ups this year? I hadn't seen anything posted about them in the SEO thread, and someone mentioned that they'd been accepted without one.

I was just going to ask if anyone had heard back from SEO yet. Getting antsy over here.

I don't know. That's why I was asking if anyone did.

Penn's new interim Dean... I am hoping they are prepping us for a diverse permanent Dean. Especially after cornell named the first Latino Dean of an Ivy League Law school just recently http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/2014/03/eduardo-pe-alver-named-dean-cornell-law-school

yes please give us more info such as school deposited at, city you applied for, which URM you are. Congrats though!!! that's big news!

Sure thing!

I will attend UChicago Law School. I am a Non-URM Hispanic. I applied for an internship in New York City. I submitted my seat deposit in January. I interviewed in early March.

I hope that helps!

ETA: I did not have a follow-up interview.

Also, as a heads-up: be prepared to know the dates of all your events that could potentially conflict with your SEO Internship. Upon acceptance, they ask that you send them those dates immediately.

Yale gets alllll the nice things! ugh lol

EDIT: SEO question - What do your proof of deposits look like? I just submitted a scanned automated email from the school that says I paid my money. Is there another form I should give SEO or is that ok?

I sent in a snapshot of the page that says I accepted admission as well as the form I filled out saying I accepted. Berkeley doesn't really have a form so it was kind of difficult but I've heard SEO is pretty lenient on what you can submit as proof
