Personally, I consider anything less than 20k/yr to be jokingly low. I consider half-tuition an okay offer and 35k+/yr a good offer.

Edited: misworded a sentence.
Edit 2: I hate when I forget a comma

I think they're just waiting on someone to pass up their Levy so they can give it to you.

I think it depends on your numbers. But you should definitely try to negotiate with any school who gives you an initial offer of $0. 20k/yr may be a good offer if you are below both schools medians. We can't all get full rides like Apple.

After double checking the average COA for t-14 schools, I decided that half-tuition really is only an okay offer.

I didn't say anything about a full ride. I think less than 20k is jokingly low because it doesn't even cover a fourth of the COA for most schools. If your GPA and LSAT are below the 25th percentile and you have no comparable offers to negotiate with then definitely consider accepting the offer.

Yeah I'm definitely way below both medians at both schools and have received over 20k a year for both. I'm still going to ask for the hell of it since I've seen lower numbers on TLS with higher offers.

It's definitely doable! I think you have a strong shot at negotiating at both! My friend had lower numbers than yours and he was able to talk NYU up to 35k/yr last cycle.

I know you didn't mention full-rides. It was supposed to be a joke, hence the striking out of your original text. But I agree 20k is low given the COA.

I agree Mandy, you should still give it a shot.

When a school that's not even T1 gives you an offer lower than two you got from T10-20, I consider that "jokingly low".

I am currently reading the book The Lawyer Bubble. The author talks about this. This ranking system is all politics that feeds into a system of greed and one-upmanship. And we, the prospective law students, the consumers, want it. Hell, we are willing to mortgage our future for it.

That's not quite how that works, but thanks for playing.

And you are....?

Let me guess: a newly minted and recent Emory Law school graduate who should be spending more time working and less time galloping on TLS.

Wow. Looks like we know who's going to be sitting in the front gunner seat. Good luck having friends in law school.

So since we're talking financial aid, is anyone else being considered not-in-need because they have a 401k or retirement account??

Michigan asked me a few questions, I answered as honestly as I could and I am considered wealthy enough to afford law school. So one must have no savings and no retirement accounts to be considered worthy of having grant aid?

UGH. I am withdrawing from them this week.

I pray the two schools I am considering attending would not use this against me. Don't I have a right to have something that I've earned these past few years in the workforce? Not that any of it will be touched for law school, but dang...throw a sista a bone!
