like how to tell your employer you're leaving?

This is def tough one for me since I only started this job last fall.

I know I'm leaving, but nobody I work with knows about law school. It sucks that I can't get excited and tell anyone, but the worst part will be leaving the kids. I teach and coach, and some of the kids grow on you.

My boss was totally on board for law school, so I wont have this issue. Now my concern is if I don't get into the T-14 and I have to stay and try to save face. I do not have a plan for that.

Yes. I know I am def going to law school this fall so I plan to give about a month notice. It depends on SEO, though. If I get SEO, I am hoping they will be considerate enough to not tell me of my acceptance into the program two weeks before orientation starts!

I really love my company, and I would hate to leave them hanging like that.

I started in June and if I get SEO I'm going to be out of here. Everyone is so nice though, I actually feel bad about having to leave.

I'm not. I just want to go to law school. My motto is you can always make something out of nothing with a little hard work and dedication. I don't really pay attention to rankings all that much. If I get into a T-14 great if not its not like my life is going to be over. Plus I also believe a person can transfer after 1L year as long as they remain focus and work hard. I don't pay attention to others negativity about where I may decide to go.

I have some regional ties to some T30 schools and I am also very debt-averse. Even if I do get T14, if I don't get significant scholly money, I will have to do serious cost-benefit analysis to justify the debt. I want to do PI work and also want to believe that passion trumps school prestige

yep, from a large city and only want to work in a large city -- pretty much makes t14 the only option to justify leaving my current job

however, would only pay sticker for HYSC

Is that "C" Chicago or Columbia?

Columbia but I guess I wouldn't be opposed to Chi at sticker, though I can't imagine living in Hyde Park for 3 years

+1. I used to be T14 or bust but debt terrifies me. I wouldn't want to have to rely on biglaw to pay off my loans. And having worked at a biglaw firm as a staff member, I could tell some of those guys were not happy at all. There was even an associate that started about the same time as me and left in less than two years. They even closed access to a patio cause an attorney jumped off ten years or so back.

I've always been attracted to biglaw for the training and credentials it provides. But doing that for 40+ years? Idk. There's more to life than billable hours, client meetings, and missing family events cause your supervising partner wants something drafted yesterday.

And sticker anywhere outside of HYSCCN? Not a chance. Have y'all seen people contemplating suicide in the vale?

Hopefully I can find a school that offers a balance of employment prospects and scholarship money!

I used to be T-14 or bust as well, but my eyes have been opened by the real life experiences of my peers, rather than listening to masses off of TLS. I have a few of URM friends who have done well at their respective T-14 and are currently struggling to pay off their debt. Then I have some who have done well and are in amazing positions... but it all seems like a gamble. If I don't get a decent scholarship from a T-14, I'm not going. I'll be right at Emory/FSU/UF/Vandy and be perfectly content with that decision.

I've never visited Chicago, so I don't know much about the city.
