do i stand a chance … especially being so late in the admission cycle AND with one of my recommenders not submitting his letter until jan 20th or later?

checking in. AA Female
UG GPA: 3.56
LSAC GPA: 3.48
Dec '13 LSAT: 163 (not thrilled about this)

i feel like back in '08 this may have been good enough for T14 but i think it's harder to get in to good schools now and this won't cut it. (HYS, NYU, Columbia are my interests)

any advice? seems like those of us getting into T14 either have 165+ or 3.5+ or are splitters. i just have a mediocre GPA and a mediocre LSAT.

Your chances for Columbia and NYU are looking good, though I'm not sure how your late-ish application will affect your chances (if it does at all, since I hear it doesn't for URMS)

Srsly: this talk about "easier in 08" doesn't even add up. The number of LSAT takers has fallen 45% since 2008, and the quality has gone down too (higher scorers have accounted for a disproportionate amount of that decline). The pool of applicants now is not only much smaller than it was 5 years ago, it is weaker too. A 163 puts you in a better position now than you'd have been in 5 years back.

http://thecareerist.typepad.com/thecare ... years.html

Even in 2008, a 163 for an AA was a lock for the T-14, especially when combined with a solid (3.48 is solid) GPA. You're well above the 99th percentile for AA test takers. There are less than 100 (probably 50-70 by my guess) AAs in the entire country with numbers superior to yours, and the T-14 took in 270+ AAs last year. Do the math. There are plenty of AAs in here with LSATs lower than yours and similar GPAs who have T-14 acceptances already.

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=195443

Apply as soon as possible to as many T-14s (and a couple good T-20s) as you can and enjoy multiple acceptances.

If the rec comes in too late for this cycle, see if you can hold off until next cycle and apply very early (September) to as many T-14s as possible. You'll get results you'll like.

ironically my name (pozzy) was derived from positive, which i generally am. thanks for being uplifting (and factual) despite my negative nancy pessimistic spewing. my LSAT score was lower than I felt it would be & everything law school related hasn't been flowing as planned. idkkkk i hope I didn't bring anyone down especially since I come here for encouragement.

Great info. Thanks again. I will proceed based on these stats and put my current stinky Debbie downer demeanor aside.

Remain confident and calm and all will work out. Your stars will align themselves. You just have to put your best foot forward with no regrets and dive right in. Don't let a score or a GPA allow you to second guess yourself. Just put your best foot forward and everything will work itself out on its on like cool butter. Take the risk and see what happens. Good luck on your cycle and welcome to the thread.

There was an AA female with a 3.54/163 who got Harvard last cycle: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/xpxgymnxpx. I think she did the Peace Corps (so her softs were great), but her numbers clearly didn't keep her out. This woman also got in: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/khaleesiqueen (I know her GPA is higher than yours, but her LSAT is 2 points lower).

I imagine you'll do okay, especially with the drop in applicants.
