Because most of us know each other's numbers. We will all probably post them at the end of the cycle.

If your a lurker you could always PM and ask

This person reports getting into Georgetown, UVA, and NYU with a 3.05 and a 165.

Other posters correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that the conventional wisdom is that if you have a gpa greater than or equal to 3.0 and a lsat of 165 or more you're pretty much a lock for at least one T14 and that several people with GPAs north of 3.0 but between 160-164 get into T14s.

August ive seen that trend as well. I dont think ive run into someone even with a 3.0 and 165+ not get into most of the t14. But what about the 164 and below range i wonder. Thank you for linking that profile. With a lower gpa then 3.5 but higher then 3.0 im really trying to pinpoint

Here are another two guys:

http://lawschoolnumbers.com/JayMac

3.4, 160 that got Cornell, UVA, Georgetown, and Berkely last cycle

http://lawschoolnumbers.com/Stephen91

3.3, 160 that got Michigan.

I'm LSN is super limited with its data. But if we take these people at their word, then it can definitely be done. You just gotta craft a strong application and have good LORs.

This thread is useful in so many ways. I guess you could use the catch-all "support group", but helping okaygo pick an interview outfit doesn't seem like the same category as being happy for each other when we get acceptances. Just a few pages ago people gave advice on cancelling a retake. Tosh has gotten insight multiple times on his PS. The people in this forum/thread are genuinely helpful in various aspects of the admissions process. Admissions may be just about numbers comparisons, but we don't have to be. And I'm glad we're not. (That said, I did post my numbers. Seemed relevant. Just not the entire point of the thread.)

We're friendly, I promise. Individual comments do get lost in the shuffle occasionally. But the more you participate, the more likely we are to reply. To turn it back, I haven't heard you giving many answers to other people's questions on the thread since I joined it. What goes around comes around and all that.

Also, guys, as an aside: This thread has grown 100 pages since I first posted in it not very long ago. We should definitely win some kind of award for thread activity. :D

Also, re: --LinkRemoved--

I. Can't. Even. It's repulsive. And the families should all bring civil suits against him--and, apparently, his parents. He (they?) is unquestionably responsible for damages. It sounds so spiteful, but maybe if their wealth is the problem the system which failed to punish their son should punish them by taking it away and giving it to those that they and their son have harmed.
The justice system in this country is a joke. Why do we want to participate in it, again? Shit like this is literally the reason that I don't want to do criminal defense or prosecution. I want to stay as far away from this mess as possible. That isn't the noble route, but in this instance I'd rather keep my sanity than be noble.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere else that the families have filed civil suits against him and his family. I hope they get every last dime that they ask for.

For me, it's things like this that convince me that more of us need to be working in this justice system and not only on the defense side. If more of us ended up working as prosecutors and judges we'd be able to stem some of this BS and actually help in correcting the current system and making it more equitable.

That is an absolutely reasonable response. There is a problem, we're going to be getting an education that could allow us to make it better--why wouldn't we?
Being cynical beyond my years, I wouldn't because I don't believe I can make it better. I don't think I could stem the tide of bullshit. Instead, like so many others, I would either become part of it or drown in it. I don't think many lawyers go into defense wanting to get rich kids out of murder charges with a defense of "they're rich." They probably want to keep innocent people from going to jail. Prosecutors want to keep criminals off the streets and protect society. Except regardless of what they want or whether it's just, their job is to keep their client out of jail/get the guy in jail. No exceptions--except what the lawyers negotiate in the hallways as favors. That isn't an environment conducive to "fixing the system" and stemming the BS.
But I am really quite pessimistic. Maybe you'll succeed. I certainly wish you the best of luck, if that's your path. I just don't think I would succeed and, like I said, in this area I'll take my own happiness and sanity over the nobility of an attempt.

I couldn't agree more. The way our CJ system is going to change is if more qualified, intelligent, and unbiased attorneys and judges become attracted to that kind of work. Having lived in a city with a notorious CJ system and worked in a public defender's office, I can't imagine doing anything else after law school.

Also your point about both sides is so true--in my city, nearly everyone in jail was black and poor and from the city and pretty much all of the prosecutors were white and from places outside of the city where you KNOW they had like, 1 black friend in their lives. Collectively. And this person didn't even think they were friends.

I personally couldn't be a prosecutor, but it would be good to have more black, liberal prosecutors in cities like mine -- those are the people that often end up as judges or politicians anyway (sigh).

It makes me angry just writing about it.

No doubt it can definitely suck the sanity right out of your life especially when you realize things like the judge in this case (according to another thing I read about the case) gave a 14 year old black kid 10 years in juvey for punching a man who fell, hit his head, and died.

I don't want to give free rides to criminals though. I just want to do what I can, if anything, to make sure that if a black kid and a white kid commit crimes of similar score that they're serving similar sentences. I want to make sure that we're not locking kids up for weed possession and then giving out probation for cocaine.

If I sound really passionate about all of this it's mostly because this stuff really pisses me off, but I'm also pretty much stuck dealing with this type of stuff all day (my dad's a defense attorney and I'm a paralegal at a prosecutor's office).

Anybody else to the point where they're already counting down the days until law school? It's probably the fact I've had a long week at work, but I'm just ready to be back in school again.

To think I actually went into this cycle thinking I would try to defer my acceptance to my top choice and work another year...I don't see that happening now.

Oh and congrats to those with acceptances this week!
