Yale, Harvard, Chicago, Columbia, NYU, Penn, Berkeley, Duke, & Georgetown. Still sitting on an app to UMN in case I get nervous and want a safety (lots of ties to the Twin Cities.)

I just watched this. (It was written on the chalkboard that they were giving out free chipotle. This made me hungry).

That's actually really common, which is awesome. All law school groups are pretty well funded and almost always feed people who come to lunch events. I have friends who probably got free lunch almost everyday. They would go for the food no matter what the topic was

I havnt seen the video in over a year but heres my take on your comments

I was caught by his proposition that AAs are "misapplying" to law schools. That, instead of UMN, they should've shot for William Mitchell, where their LSATs would be median. TLS wisdom + this economy unequivocally states that going to William Mitchell is roughly equivalent to playing Russian Roulette with your career, except 5 rounds of 6 you will get shot in the face instead of the other way round. So in way he's advocating graduating more black lawyers into crushing debt. But in that entire 40 min talk he didn't mention the economy, so he must have been setting real-world considerations like having a job aside for the sake of just discussing admissions. Which I don't really approve of, but whatever.

I do blame him for suggesting that they aim lower and likely graduate in debt and without a job.

In my situation, I chose a UMN with $$$ over higher ranked schools at sticker because even though the odds of getting a very high paying job were higher at the higher ranked schools, the odds of being able to pay off my loans & still having a respectable career as a lawyer were much much higher at the lower ranked school.

TLS wisdom is that outside of the T14, attending a school at [near]sticker is a financial mistake. Assuming a 15x lsat and a sub 3.7 gpa, it is likely that the applicant would be attending UMN (or any T30) at sticker or near sticker. that would cost almost 200k. Considering only about 20-25% of the class will have the opportunity to make 100k out the gate, attending would be a mistake. Only those 20-25% would be able to pay off their sticker loans by themselves. Statistically, with an LSAT over 5 points below median, ones chances would be significantly worse.

TLS overblows how bad many TTTs are. TLS thinks theyre bad because their entry level salaries are not 100k+. Schools like Texas tech place close to 70% of their class in legal jobs, which rivals every school ranked 20-30. William Mitchell sucks compared Tech, mostly because Minneapolis is a saturated market, but the 5/6 Russian roulette thing is hyperbole. At WM, only half of grads become lawyers. Still, attending WM with a full ride would be a much better and safer financial decision than attending UMN at sticker. doing so would give you at least 50% chance at being able to pay your loans. I say at least because even if you don't end up a lawyer, you can still pull 40-60k starting in other fields with a JD, which is still sufficient to pay off cost of living loans one incurs during law school.

Many of you in this thread are T14 bound, so the above doesn't really apply. For those who aren't, attending a lower ranked school with a large scholarship will likely give you a much better chance to pay your loans off than a higher ranked school at sticker or near sticker. Just make sure you negotiate the stips off. Im not saying not to shoot high. Definitely shoot for the stars. Im just talking about choosing between offers.

He's a proponent of the LSAT obviously. His claims on are based on the fact that many African Americans aren't getting admitted because of their poor scores and their choice of places to apply. His argument isn't based on employment outcome, debt level, or anything like that. He's just saying if you have a 150 are applying to to Harvard, you probably aren't going to get in so hopefully your applying elsewhere because its better for you to go to school if you want to become a lawyer than be shut out of law school.

Right. I get it. I just don't particularly approve of that kind of argument in a vacuum.

Also guys I can post pictures, so totally count me in for the next pw. :D

We need the whole crew online again to do the pw

Did anyone take the Dec. LSAT? What did you think of it? Curve? I liked the games. Pretty straight forward. Wasted all of the time I gained from the first two on the third because I overlooked a rule and just knew this game was the hardest game in lsat history until i reread the rules...lol. I was mentally distraught on my next section thinking about how i blew my perfect score chance on LG. lol but other than that I think it was pretty straight forward... Mirrors... -_______-

Didn't you get a 179 on the LSAT? I feel like you don't need a safety. Gtown and Duke are back ups for you. You should be making one of those Harvard/Rubenstein/Hamilton threads by April.

Completely agree with this....destroyed the first 2 and stalled hard on the 3rd due to misreading. Sucks to blow a perfect section but oh well.

And that mirrors passage was like Inception or something. What was your experimental section?

I had LG-LR-LG-RC-LR. Man that third game was a bitch. It took me so long to figure out that I only had 5 minutes left for the last game. I thought LR1 was relatively easy, LR2 was a little harder and took much more time to get through. Other than mirrors, the RC seemed pretty straight-forward; I appreciated the AA Artist one because I wrote my art appreciation paper on him.

I applied for the LSAC Fee Wavier and was approved. It waives all your application fees except for Stanford, Yale, UT, and Nevada I believe. It also allows you to take the LSAT for free twice.

LOL no...no, I meant that in reference to writing my essays! Not app fees.
