Not to undermine Athlone, who has been a great champion here. Hell he gave me confidence and perspective when I needed it the most but 168 is absolutly possible from 158. I'm not a genius of any sort and below are my results.
Took a prep course already, well take another one. I sucked at games because I wasnt smart enough to make those magical inferences, but after PowerScore I took Velocity which had a brute force style of attack. I would do the same set of games every week (along with PTs and such) until i was able to do a setup in 90 seconds flat.
My point is, there is a path to 168 from 158.
I agree with you. I never doubted the
possibility that one could go from 158 to 168. I claimed that it was unlikely ("probably not realistic for most"), which it may be. Most re-takers don't improve by more than a few points, 2 or 3 being more typical jumps. A 10 point jump is remarkable, and more a credit to your individual ability (among other factors) than to the mere act of re-taking itself. The vast majority of re-takers, try as they might, simply aren't going to improve their scores by that kind of margin.
Not trying to be too much of a downer here. I'm all for shooting for the stars and all that, but we do have to be realistic. There is a path to 10 point improvements, but the vast majority of re-takers won't be on it. That being said, smaller improvements can still make a big difference so the merits of re-taking are not buried by my assertions here.
