Thanks! But that's why I'm feeling weary... I'll spend 2 weeks (because if I'm going to put the time into this, I'm doing it right) gathering a new recommendation letter, writing a LOCI, answering the essay questions, and submitting a video response.. all for being the last at the end of the stacks due to stats. When I could use the time and energy into scholarship applications (I've still got 4 more to go), oh yeah and my 9-5 job.mandyjay11 wrote:californiauser wrote:I don't think NU is worth sticker (300k with accrued interest and tuition increases), which is what you're probably looking at if you get off the wait listluuma wrote:Got WL'ed at Northwestern... +1... but congrats on being wait-listed with your stats!

Based off of my personal circumstance, my measurements of cost vs benefits and my level of overall utility, I would pursue the waitlist...californiauser wrote:pay sticker for NU? care to explain your reasoning?BankruptMe wrote: I would do it honestly. But that is just me.
Never said I would attend.

Hmm, ok thanks everyone. I'm just nervous that my two scores taken 2 months apart will be averaged and I won't even get a JS1. I saw a URM with very similar stats on both first take and retake get denied without a JS1. But at this point I'm just grateful that Harvard is even a remote possibility, so I guess I'll chill out haha.Ben Reilly wrote:I got my JS2 recently with two scores: December 2011- 160, December 2013- 167.

Are Duke and UVA peer schools? Duke gave me more money than UVA and I want to use it to negotiate. Can I use it to negotiate with Georgetown? Not to be ungrateful but I don't want to attend Duke...but the money is almost a 20k COA different between them and Virginia

I do not see what is wrong with trying. just ask, if its no, its no.okaygo wrote:Are Duke and UVA peer schools? Duke gave me more money than UVA and I want to use it to negotiate. Then you can withdraw and free it up to someone who is waiting on Duke

I would say so. Duke is 10, UVA is 8. They're both on the (south?) east coast. I think you should negotiate the Duke schooly with Gtown and UVA.okaygo wrote:Are Duke and UVA peer schools? TCR is to negotiate using Duke for both, and withdraw from
Duke so I can get in
But honestly, idk about Duke and UVA. I didn't look too much into UVA because I figured I was out of their range. Worth a try.
You can definitely use both on Georgetown bc they're both out of Georgetowns league.
Why no interest in Duke btw, just curious?

I'll be at NYU's, though I'm not sure if I'll do the one next week or the one in April. It all depends on whether or not I hear back from Penn in the next week.LawSchoolOrNah wrote:Anyone doing NYU or Harvards ASWs?

No idea so far lol. I'm definitely doing the HLS ASW, just not sure about NYU. I really don't want to turn down an excuse to skip school and go to NY for a couple of days lolEvMont wrote:I'll be at NYU's, though I'm not sure if I'll do the one next week or the one in April. But really the simple answer for why I don't want Duke is that it's further away from my target market than I would want it to be.

Re: URM 2013-2014 Cycle Thread
Oh no! If you plan on coming for Diversity Day, try contacting Jordan Yellen (Cornell's BLSA President) about this.runinthefront wrote:I live far, far away from Cornell University and I'm trying to decide now if it's worth it to book a flight out to their ASW. I would definitely be interested in attending if the price was right but I can't justify spending $500+ on a flight(tickets are around $900 to fly out from my local airport and $550-650 to fly out from an airport two hours from my apartment, Cornell reimburses $200 ), plus the opportunity cost of missing work IF I'm getting little to no financial aid from them.
I just hate how they have one of the highest COA's in the T-14, yet they're historically stingy with money. It doesn't make any sense. I hope they release this information soon.
Also, Cornell is actually one of the most generous of T14s when it comes to aid, especially for URMs. I guess you can play it by ear until you get info on scholarships, which are already trickling in. You should be hearing word soon.

Yeah, you guys would be surprised what URMs get concerning merit & need based financial aid.
Some schools can be stingy, but honestly, the truth is, you'll never know until you get that offer.
