Any NA students gotten accepted to schools yet?
I'm still waiting to hear back from schools, I'm an enrolled Native American tribal member, how is everyone's cycle going?

I've had an absolutely amazing cycle so far. I think I'm still in shock! Info is in my profile. Anyone else going to PLSI?

Lol well you DO have amazing stats. I'd kill to have gotten above 170! So far, I've been accepted with scholarship to michigan state university, waiting to great back from ucla and columbia. But I've been strongly considering msu anyway. I wonder how the dramatic drop in applicants this cycle is going to affect things, particularly as native american students. Have you decided yet where to go?
I really want to go to PLSI, but I attend a school with three semesters/yr, so I won't graduate until the end of july.

Congrats on MSU!! Would be awesome to study under Matthew Fletcher and Wenona Singel.
I have no idea where to go...I have an amazing, but amazingly difficult, dilemma!

Wouldn't Yale be the obvious choice? I'm waiting to hear back, but I'm sure it's a rejection. Still, I'm glad I'm making the attempt, Yale is a wildcard.
My "realistic" goal is UCLA, because they have an amazing Indian Law program there.
What are your thoughts so far on where you want to go?

My cycle doesn't measure up to anela00's, but it's still gone pretty well. I'm debating whether or not I should go to PLSI or take a job in NYC this summer. I'm deferring a year to get a masters through a different scholarship program, so it's my second-to-last summer of freedom.
ETA: And anela00, if you decide you don't want Yale, feel free to call and tell them to give your spot to me. I'll gladly take it off your hands

I vote PLSI! Congrats LaMuSayonga on all of your acceptances.
Getting into Yale is amazing, but I'm not sure if I want to go there. Their Indian law opportunities are very sparse (especially when compared to Harvard or Columbia) and the number of Native students is even sparser (LSAC says there is only one in the entire school -- what). I also know some Natives who went to Yale for undergrad and didn't like the community there at all. So I dunno. I need to do some more research, see if I can find any Native students/alumni to talk to, and visit to see how it feels.
Right now I'm having the amazing dilemma of choosing between HYS and $$$ at slightly lower-ranked schools. I really have no idea what to do. Everywhere has its pros and cons.

Re: Any NA students gotten accepted to schools yet?
It's definitely an amazing dilemma for you to have. Congratulations!
I understand what you mean about Yale and the lack of a Native community. The effort Harvard put into promoting NALSA and their Federal Indian Law program is impressive. Getting an email from Professor Singer was pretty cool. Of all the schools I've been in contact with, they've definitely done the best job at publicizing the Native student community to me.
Best of luck to you. I'm sure you'll make the right decision! (as if there's a wrong decision between HYS/full ride to Columbia/other T14s)

I'm jealous you got an email from Professor Singer! I haven't gotten any of the emails yet. How long did it take to get them after you were admitted?

Just checked the dates on the email. I was admitted on 12/3 and started receiving the personalized emails on the 17th. Professor Singer's and NALSA's emails both arrived on the 18th.

I think I'm leaning toward university of arizona..I haven't looked into summer externships with tribes in arizona yet, but surely there will be plenty...right?

I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities. Both ASU and UA have strong NALSA chapters and course offerings, but, like you, I haven't looked at tribal externship opportunities in Arizona.

To everyone going to PLSI, what are you doing for housing?

If they can call you NA, you get just as big of a bump and it doesn't matter how NA you are.GW1010 wrote:I'll most likely be at Stanford next year, though as a full disclaimer I'm only part Native American (seminole)

A relative went to PLSI about 10 years ago and they told me PLSI sends you a list of temporary housing options. I only mailed everything earlier this week though, so I haven't gotten anything yet.anela00 wrote:Good question. That's garbage. No way an eighth blood equals a full blood. Individual nations determine their own membership - dat sovereignty - so if a nation says 1/8 is a member, then they're a member.Docreviewsux wrote:That's garbage. That's still doesn't make it good policy. Under that policy a bunch of people with little Indian blood can decide that having little indian blood is enough to be a member and get the benefits of membership like federal funds and scholarships and casinos.A.
