Hey Everyone,
so I just posted this in another thread but then realized this may have been a better place for the post. I have been looking around and reading on tls for a while now. I have also been looking on lsn for a while. I cant seem to get a consistent view of what I am looking at. I guess not many people with my gpa get the lsat score I got. I have pretty good letters or rec and average softs. I am a first generation mexican american male. I was wondering what you all thought my chances for a t15 school are? feel free to ask if you have any additional questions!
-thanks

Re: 3.94 162
I had the same LSAT/GPA 2 years ago and one of my great life regrets is not taking a year off and retaking the LSAT. I ended up at Notre Dame and things worked out great for me but roughly 80% of the people I know who took time off ended up at the very top of my class. Even if you go to the same schools you will get more scholarship, get better grades once you're there, and I'd bet you'd enjoy it more.

What other schools were you accepted to if you do not mind me asking?andythefir wrote:I had the same LSAT/GPA 2 years ago and one of my great life regrets is not taking a year off and retaking the LSAT. Also, what have you heard was the biggest thing that was gained from the year off?

Re: 3.94 162
I was only interested in ND so I just did the 1 application (it's awesome that things worked out, it was a pretty awful tactical decision on my part).
Going straight through you're more likely to be burned out (even if you don't think you are) and not give law school the respect it deserves. If you think this is just 17th grade or a victory lap for undergrad you'll get your clock cleaned. The people who had jobs were ready and excited to be back in school, more flexible in their approach to school (not caught up in "I don't need to work all day Saturday and Sunday, I never had to before"), more focused on their long term goals, and generally more emotionally and personally stable which is huge in 1L.
Another benefit to taking time off is that the people with professional experience do waaaay better in OCI/the job hunt. So if I had taken a year off I would have gotten better grades, had a better employment outcome regardless of grades, and gotten a much bigger scholarship. It's your life of course but as I said it's a very serious regret I have.

School prestige can matter in this case. One of my friends, an AA male, got into Columbia with an LSAT only a few pts higher and a lower GPA. He didn't even have extremely remarkable softs, but his recs and statement were great. He also went to HYS.

so then what do you all think? do you think that I have any chance at a t5 school? I did exemplify my diverse background and how my different upbringing would lead me to bring a different perspective to the table.
