Look higher than those schools. I think Harvard and Stanford are in play for you.

Is it too late to apply? I thought I had no shot at any of the above... hm, this is interesting.

Honestly, you kind of* don't, but isn't the 200 dollars in app fees worth knowing for sure? Who knows, but definitely worth finding out.

*(maybe 1/4 chance at Harvard, 1/5 chance at Stanford?)

I think he does. Harvard has been known to dip to 164-169 for URMs.

Thanks for the encouragement! Putting one in today, we'll see how it goes, I guess. I am just hoping for something in the T14, LSAT score didn't turn out exactly as planned.

I wanted to get the inout of the TLS community. Should I even bother applying to Yale. My best friend keeps telling me I am making a mistake by not applying, but he's a doctor so what does know right?

3.66/166 Hispanic (half black but not even sure if that matters at all). Interesting story (Diasdvantaged economic background, immigrated to U.S. at 18, learned English, attended community college, transferred to Ivy League U, 4 eyars work exp investment banking, excellent employer recs). However, I do nto have any academic recs and my stats are way below their median. Am I just donating $100 to Yale?

Appreciate your thoughts. Also if you're gonna be a huge Richard don't post anything.

Yeah, you would, for that reason alone. Everything else is great, though. A 166 would give you an outside chance at Yale (maybe like 10%, certainly worth the app fee), BUT if you don't have any academic LORs, forget it.

I know... it's incredibly distressing. I've had a bad track record with standardized tests in general. I am considering retaking it in February. I just can't afford the classes and I get superbly nervous taking the real thing (though my PT's are great).

Should I invest in the Princeton Review course?

I'd really like to end up at HYSCCN but when I look at the stats of other URM's I'm like "well I'm not getting in, they can only take so many of us and I'm not not gonna be one."

Crafted what I think is a strong app & trying to stay positive, but this has definitely gone through my mind.

This. This forum has convinced me my 164 will do wonders for me, but it always comes from people with 3.5+ I'm just worried my 3.21 will keep me out of all the fun. US News doesn't care about my softs or upward trend, so why will schools? Just because they should?

glad I'm not the only person who's thought of this. That LSAT score will surely do wonders for you, I mean, it is what? 90th percentile and 99th for black test takers?

Schools can't be too too picky with their AA males, cuz of the high demand and lack of quality supply, or so I've been told by my acquaintances at these institutions.

In the words of Jesse Jackson, keep hope alive!

Off chance at Georgetown and Cornell. Definitely in at a T30.

Have you read this: Blacks and Law School: By the Numbers:
"1. A 159 should, in theory, put you approximately near the top 360 or so among black test takers (about 2 full Standard Deviations above the mean), and a 160 should put you more comfortably and confidently within that range. The T-14 will accept approximately 331 AA’s in a given year, so you’ll contend with these scores, maybe some money. If the “next three” (Vandy, UCLA, UT-Austin) are also on your list, you should be in an even better shot at getting an acceptance. Overall, this isn’t a bad place to be. If you’re an AA law school hopeful who wants a T-14, I’d recommend a 160 as the minimum standard to shoot for assuming an average (or better) GPA."

Reading the whole thing might give your a better perspective on your specific chances. Don't count yourself out. There have been many urms in the past admitted to harvard off the waitlist with 160s, if you have the patience to wait out.

But with high GPAs, no? I'm talking 3.7+.

So, what I do when I'm obsessing is go look at the graphs of acceptances on lawschoolnumbers: 2010-2011 acceptances. In this year, there was an aa male waitlisted with a 160/3.0: His Profile But, from his profile, you can see he chose to accept a full ride a Berkeley rather than wait out HLS. So, is that cause for hope... I would think so.

I think he was an outlier...unique story or circumstances, perhaps. A rarity of sorts, but no doubt still a beacon of hope for those URMs with lower #s.
