What is BLSA?
Subject line speaks for itself, but can someone answer a few questions for me. I looked at their website, but after reading some posts on TLS, I'm under the impression that joining is mandatory? If you are AA, and accepted to law school, are you automatically a part of BLSA? Might seem like a dumb question. Definitely seems like a worthy and effective group nonetheless. God bless!

Black Law Student Association
It's not mandatory. It's just a club at most law schools that anybody can join if they want to. No different than the clubs you had in undergrad. If you want to be a part of it, join; if you don't then no big deal.

lol. No not mandatory. Its just an organization that law schools have to unite the African American studens, help with networking, do community service, etc.

The affiliation groups are fun and often host events with free food.

I'm pretty sure they can. Just like BSU (Black Student Union) in college. Non-black people are allowed to join, but they just seem not to (possibly because many people are uncomfortable being one of the vast minority in a group)Tom Joad wrote:Can non-black people join?

Re: What is BLSA?
It’s good for non-black people to join, if they’re genuinely interested in being an active BLSA member. But if you just want to join an org for your resume or the benefits we provide…then it’s not really doing anyone any good.Tom Joad wrote:Can non-black people join?
