Glimmer of Hope for HS?

Post by Master_Splinter » Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:31 pm

AA male here with 3.06/178. Today I recieved two fee waivers in the form of an email from both HS admissions. To say I'm floored would be an understatement, I didn't think I would have a shot with either, considering how my cycle has gone so far. My GPA was corrected by LSAC to pull me barely above a 3.0 about 2 weeks ago from 2.93. Would theses schools have knowledge of this change even if I didn't submit an app? Should I submit an app for either? Part of me feels I would be wasting my time.

Anyone heard of any AA males that fit my profile that have been successfully admitted to either?

Submit apps to the entire T14 including HYS.

A very strong LOR and probably a phone call from my employer who is a prominent Columbia alum and very generous contributor to the school helped on this one. Didn't ask for it but he offered once he found out I was applying, obviously I wasn't going to turn it down.

The poster was implying that you were one of the people posting hypothetical acceptances and passing them off as confirmed acceptances.

So you got a decision before anyone else? Hmm.

Putting that aside, I AM curious why you're waiting out the waitlist at schools ranked much lower than Columbia. It's doubtful that you would get money if you've been waitlisted, right? Your business, of course, but just curious, since you seem interested in HS (which suggests that rank is important to you).

I'm sure you're aware of LSN and the fact that no one with your numbers or even particularly close has gotten into HS even as a URM and with an amazing LSAT. Obviously LSN doesn't include everyone, but it doesn't bode well. However, you have a fee waiver and you'll probably always wonder if you don't go for at least one of them. 'Waste of time' doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me since you've obviously already sent in applications and at most these would take like 20 minutes each.

In regards to Columbia, I am being presumptuous honestly. I have faith in my boss's ability to get things done. Every other acceptance I have recieved. Aside from my gpa, my is very strong (5 WE at Fortune 500, progressive promotions (domestic and internationaly, strong leadership roles within and outside of my employer, founded a non profit that is impactful back in my hometown) and probably without his assistance I would be waitlisted at worst. (I'm probably somewhat delusional on this idea I know.)

I am keeping some schools in play partly due to my relationship. My fiance will be footing the bills while I'm in school so I am trying to be accomadating by taking region into consideration since she will be pursing a graduate degree also at the same time. Most schools I have been accepted to are strong in the field she will be pursuing.

I know there isn't any data available on LSN but I know there have been cases where acceptances has happened at both HS, but of course most in my demographic won't divulge that info partly due to the Afirm. Action convo's that ensue from those that are upset about it.

Ranking isn't important honestly, I would take a full ride at certain schools over Harvard, but not so sure about Stanford. I mostly just wanted to know of anyone who has made it possible and get any advice from them in regards to submitting an app. to get them to take a chance on me.

But in all seriousness, good luck with your cycle. Everybody is caught with their pants down every once in awhile.

It's weird. 2 months ago he had a different GPA and 4 years work experience. Now it's 5 etc.

tsk tsk, smart enough to get into HLS, but still ignorant of time travel.

Well that'd make two of us since OP doesn't seem to notice Columbia hasn't accepted RD applicants yet.

Give him a break. When you are time warping through different dimensions with the Boss, it is hard to keep track of the time continuums all the peons are operating on.

Sorry OP.

Seriously though, I wish you the best of luck. Apply and see what happens, the worst that could happen is a rejection.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Stanford doesn't give out merit based waivers do they? I think it's only need based.
