Top Law Schools

I grew up in a fairly homogeneous community and experienced a huge amount of racism during high school.

I now attend a large public school where diversity is ubiquitous and I no longer stick out. Unfortunately, as I apply to law school I feel my choices limited by the threat of once again being an overwhelming minority in a small community.

I was wondering if anyone has also gone through this experience and how they dealt with it.

If you're in law school is there a lack of diversity in the school or town? Has it affected you in anyway?

law school is different..n judging by ur list of schools..ur fine

I think law schools are generally fairly diverse, and you will be around people who are generally less ignorant. This is my experience (super white), and everyone seems friendly, havent seen or even heard in casual conversation any racism, even joking racism which is extremely common in most settings.

The surrounding community, not the law school, should be examined. In my opinion, law school communities are above your stated concern. Some law schools, such as W&M & Richmond for example, have an unusually low number of hispanics, yet I doubt that the law school community at either school would be unwelcoming.

Agree with the above poster. I don't think it's so much the law school you should worry about. I would worry about the school's surrounding community.

Also, don't make your decision based solely on numbers. One of the cities I felt the most welcome was in Portland, Oregon, even though there aren't a lot of minorities in that city. Two of the cities I felt the least welcome were Boston and Philadelphia, both of which have a large percentage of minorities. I would try to visit the city to gauge the level of prejudice, and I would talk to other people of color who live in those cities as well.
