Rejected at Penn. Probs wouldn't have gone there, but I was hoping for at least a waitlist. Oh well...

I applied to Yale and have been admitted. I'm not sure why fewer URMs apply to Yale but I personally didn't feel like any of the other top schools did much to attract me as a diversity applicant. It was a pleasant surprise to receive Yale's diversity package and it felt like a significant encouragement to apply.Alltheirsplendor wrote:Last year's URM thread was more poppin'
Anyone throw an app at Yale? I know a lot of URMs don't apply... But I was wonderin'
Also, congrats vincanity! That's amazing

Not sure if I qualify as a URM by the TLS definition, but I am pretty sure the schools I applied to counted me as one. I am from Colombia, a first-generation college student, and grew up in poverty. Recently got admitted to Penn. So excited! Still waiting to hear from Yale. I only applied to two schools which feels like a low number compared to others on this forum. After visiting so many law schools, Penn and Yale were the only schools that felt like a good match. At this point Yale is probably a deny/waitlist which is cool with me. Best of luck to others who are still waiting to hear back from schools!

For the purpose of saving time and not thumbing through 33 pages, because I'm sure it's been asked, but do law schools notice/care if you have not previously applied as a minority until law school? High school and undergrad I applied as Caucasian but am realizing how applying as URM can be an advantage. I am half Lebanese (I know this doesn't help) and 1/4 Mexican. I was adopted and had my birth certificate changed, etc. So my question is will applying as Mexican go over rather smoothly or should I expect to have to prove it or possibly write about it in my personal statement? Thanks.

This makes me feel SOOOOO MUCH better about my hold at Harvard. I imagine most of the pending URMS are on hold? Any idea about URM admits/pending apps at Yale? I feel like there may not be a significant URM boost at Yale because of the way files are reviewed...does anyone have more info on this?sharktankdean wrote:whenwin wrote:Here are the Harvard URM #s from LSN. I needed this.
Paradoxically, I get less hopeful every day that passes even if it means we are one day closer to a decision.

Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
random anecdote that may be of interest: i know an aa male w/ a 176 lsat and near perfect grades who rejected from mich, uva, and penn. not waitlisted, but flat out REJECTED. he went to yale. not only are URM cycles unpredictable, but there is also some mad yield protection at play. so, try to not read too much into a waitlist/denial from any given school...there is still hope!

Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
i wonder if yale uses the credential assembly service info to determine URM status or if the URM boost is more a function of the ds? Ideally, URM candidates will have both selected their race and included a diversity statement. However, I wonder how Yale considers candidates that have 1) included a diversity statement but failed to disclose race to LSAC, 2) disclosed URM status to LSAC but failed to include a ds ???

Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
(1) From what I've read, sometimes admission staff are able to tell. However, if the candidate hasn't left any sorts of clues, it becomes impossible. (2) From what I understand the boost is applied regardless of the inclusion of a diversity statement, although a DS can provide a candidate the opportunity to discuss ideas or details about themselves not discussed in the PS or the 250.Geneva wrote:i wonder if yale uses the credential assembly service info to determine URM status or if the URM boost is more a function of the ds?
