im still waiting on about 25 schools anywhere from top 10 to top 50 and and so on all the way to tier 4. I invested some money on apps and had the usual excess number of fee waivers. So far Waitlisted at W&L, in at steson waiting for scholly info, and got into lower level schools with full rides. Excessive i know but when my cycle comes to an end, we will have a pretty good sense of the real impact of URM. Indeed, like DEECEE and our colleague who got into Iowa, Im above the 75% on GPA at all my reach schools and below to just at 25% LSAT. From what remember from college(maybe different here) URMs will get (SAT) boost in this case LSAT, and do well if their gpas are on the high side(>=75%). Any thoughts?

Drummerboy, I don't think we get ask much a boost for law school as we did for undergrad. I'm hoping there will be some boost though.

When people on this thread have posted numbers and said, "I think I got a boost", I have gone over to lawschoolpredictor.com and inputted those numbers to see how they computed. I cant remember specifics now, but I feel like most people saying they have a boost have gotten into places that come up as "consider", with a probability score of 30-50%. I guess that could be seen as a boost, but slightly disappointing. I, for one, had higher expectations - that the boost would be like in undergrad applications.

But on the bright side, I do remember someone's numbers on the lawschoolpredictor.com calculator showing a clear boost. The person got into a school that was a "deny" listed 5 slots ahead of their uppermost "consider". It was somewhere in like T20-25. I am too lazy to go back and search for who or what.

Anyway, lets hope for the best. Buena suerte, other Hispanics!

i agree about the consider. at some urm poor schools like W & L and iowa, i think the urm status makes a greater impact. time will tell. i hope we all dont get waitlisted at reaches. ive seen a lot of that. Have others?

Fun fact of the day:

According to LSAC reporting, only 3 "other Hispanics" attended Stanford's entering class last year. The class size was 180.

Superb Congrats. My stats: LSAT 156 GPA 3.8 Cuban. I am waiting on IOWA. Great School me thinks. When did you apply. Also hows your cycle up until now.
I applied to Iowa a few days before christmas, but took the december LSAT, so that elongated the process a bit. So far my cycle has been what I expected, but I am waiting on most of my reach schools now, but as far as safety or good fits I have gotten into syracuse $$$, quinnipiac, Maine, and Northeastern$. Still waiting on scholarship info on everyone but NE and Syracuse. I wish they would hurry up and send my acceptance letters. Status checkers are nice, but torturous in the money waiting game.

anxiously awaiting. with our stats, money seems to be scarce particulary top 100. i too took the lsat in december. hopefully there will be some money left for us. what will you do if you dont get money from iowa and its the best school you get into? Its number 26 thats damn good and difficult to turn down. We will have similar options. It seems that with lsat below 160 schools do you a favor accepting you and with 160 plus you do them a favor. Does this make any sense? This whole process can drive you nuts if you let it.

Oh yeah, thats how they do. They will let you in, but they want our money. If I don't get any money from Iowa and get solid offers from other places, I would potentially choose the money. But you can get residency at Iowa for the second and third year, which is only 20k a year. Thats basically what I would be paying at 'cuse with my 27k a year scholly. So I would be willing to do that. I am hoping for atleast a little money. Supposedly they give 90% of incomng students aid, so hopefully I am in that.

I noticed that a lot of you guys keep talking about this "boost". But I have a friend who is Cuban-American and she seems to think because Cuban-Americans and other Hispanics make more than the median US family income that she will not receive a "boost". And if she does it will be marginal at best. She's currently studying for the LSAT and will be applying next cycle. What's your experience with this? I think she may be right, but I don't know really most of hispanic friends in law and in general are Rican and Dominican so I'm sure it's different. She's not registered on here (the most PARANOID human being ever) and asked me to ask. Thanks a lot in advance.

P.S. Other Hispanics sounds really awkward to say out loud LOL.

To be considered URM (under represented minority) you have to be mexican or puerto rican for hispanics. But there is a theory that you get a smaller diversity boost for being an "other" hispanic. So technically, you don't receive a boost, but there is a chance you may get one depending on school.

So far there is somewhat of a boost at the schools that need us Other Hispanics. But be prepared to pay ticket to the big schools even though theyll gladly accept you. Based on my colleagues Iowa admission im hoping for a similar boost but im not counting on anything. One thing that he did mention that was good to hear is that you can get state residence and that Iowa in particular gives out 90 scholarship money. Again im not counting on it.

I agree. I somewhat regret not trying a few bigger reaches. Never know what will happen.

i applied to lots of reaches. probably too many. my theory for what its worth, is that other hispanics with my stats , myself included, will probably get waitlisted at the reaches and semi reaches. just a nice way of saying your dinged. lol

On hold at Northwestern. Its beyond a reach for me! Waitlisted at W & L will have reevaluation of WL applicants this week. Decision by Friday. In at Hofstra. No money info yet. In at Stetson with $. Visiting Monday. Dinged today at BU and boalt. tomorrow is the big day for wash and lee decisions about waitlist part 1.just dinged at penn too. that makes three in a row. maybe wash and lee is a go unless things come in fours too.by the way, law school predictor has been dead on.

I found out not too long ago that I was put on "reserve" (glorified WL) at Cornell. I'm not sure if I should ride it out.

I agree. At this point, I've gotten 4 WL, 4 acceptances. It's really annoying because I'm just getting WL at all of my reaches.

exactly. and guess what, if we do get in we will be the ones paying for the others scholarships. for example, i got into hofstra and stetson with some scholly. i figured i would use a potential scholly offer at hofstra to leverage more from stetson. so i called hofstra this am and basically asked if $ was coming they said no. hence, no scholly and no leveraging. these schools are in sync. they know how much to offer based on your ability or inabilty to secure money from another higher ranked school.

update no hofstra scholly in at fiu and nova waitlisted for 2nd time at wash and lee.

your a super-duper reverse splitter if they need a 4.0 at the end of the cycle to preserve their median one of these schools might scoop you up. Waitlists are really annoying though, b/c if they do accept you it's in july/august when you've already made arrangements for another school and shit. It is frustrating DeeCee, but UNC is an incredible school close to home for you, so I would send LOCI's in, but not sweat it.
