I became disenchanted with Penn (still think it's an AMAZING school, just not for me), got into Columbia FINALLY after submitting way back in October, and just got offered the RTK at NYU this morning! This decision is a no-brainer for me, and I will definitely be at NYU!!! Hope some of you will be my classmates, and congratulations everyone else on your super awesome decisions!
I was at both ASD's for CLS and NYU last week and I completely feel what Law Monkey and others are saying. (in fact, I bet I spoke with some or all of them in person over the days). Beyond PI, NYU's vibe was noticeably more welcoming. NYU reminded me why I want to be a lawyer. CLS reminded me that I can (probably will) be very successful as a lawyer. NYU was positively inspiring. Prof. Bryan Stevenson was a definite highlight, but the whole institution just seemed to have more energy. Intangible, I know, but that's how I felt.
Additionally, as it pertains to this thread, I felt like the Student/Alumni of color community was MUCH stronger. We were invited to the annual BLAPA Gala (That is the Black, Latino, Asian and Pacific Islander Association...I think...I may be wrong about what BLAPA stands for). It was an inspiring night (and a VERY fancy one). All of the speakers - alumni, students, professors, administrators - gave the sense of a real community doing interesting things to push the boulder of progress uphill. In short, for me, it felt very comfortable.
That being said, I bet the community at CLS has a similar event and we didn't have the opportunity to compare. Obviously, this was just a limited introduction to the schools. Did others who attended feel similarly? I'm happy to talk via PM about more of my impressions of the event if someone is interested.
