URM Transfer, how much does it help!?!?
I understand that being a URM during the initial application cycle is golden. Likewise, a 160 can break you into the T14, when otherwise, as a caucasian applicant you need a 166.
My question is: As it takes being top 10% of your class to transfer to YHS, can a URM transfer up to YHS if he/she is only top 25% or top 35%.
Please answer this question for someone transferring from UChicago, NYU, Berkley-esk schools..
Thank you

1) Bumping is generally frowned on if you haven't given enough time for people to respond yet. Bumping twice in less than an hour is just plain neurotic. You should be giving folks a day or two before you even consider bumping, especially for a question where there's so little data out there for people to answer with.
2) There is, in fact, very little data on this. However, I have seen it said on the Yahoo! transferapps community and by posters here that there doesn't appear to be a real URM boost for transfers like there is for 1L admissions. Everything that I've heard indicates that it helps almost none at all and that transferring is going to be 95% grades whether you're a URM or not.
That said, if you're at a T6 school already you should be able to transfer up without being in the top 10%. The gap in rankings between the school you're applying from and applying too is the other factor that seems to matter a lot, and I've heard at least in prior cycles that folks at lower T14 schools have been able to transfer up to HYS without top-10% grades. Given that you're at a T6 you may possibly be able to transfer up even if you're only in the top 1/4 or top 1/3 of your class, regardless of URM status.
Since you're already at a T6 I would say to just go ahead and apply to HYS and find out for yourself what happens. Worst case scenario, they reject you and you're still above-median at the T6 you're attending now.

Thanks for the reply, and the bumping etiquette.
This is strange to me, that URMs would not get a decent boost. I thought schools would want transfer diversity as much as initial applicant diversity, (it helps their diversity #s just the same...). I am happy to hear that transferring from a T6 to a T3 is seemingly doable. Does anybody know where I could find more info on transferring from CLS/NYU to HLS/YLS?

T6 to T3? If you have the rank to transfer why not just keep it? Are there jobs that a top 20-25% Chicago guy can't get that a median Harvard gal can? I understand T1 to T14 but is median at T3 that much better than great grades at T6?
