I like Grindr, but I haven't really met anyone on that site. Gay.com use to be cool, but I've outgrown it.

No kidding - I hate that shit on A4A... and then they say "Not racist, just my preference..." Ya, ok.

Lol I had a conversation yesterday w a self-hating Latino that defended racial preferences vociferously. His profile said he was 'white' but then in conversation he said he was Latin, but didn't like how he got judged when people would dismiss him if he said listed Latin. He further defended his 'ethnic' choice by saying he could pass as white, and that even he would dismiss someone if their profile stated they were Latino. Lolz.

One of these days, I'll come across someone who will actually openly admit to being a racist, without the pretense of justification.

Don't you need to encounter people in the first place for this to happen?

Gays are generally racist, simply because it's an easy way to generalize about entire segments of the population based on physical traits. For example, in the 'straight' world, you'll rarely see entire groups of people labeled as fats, femmes, twinks, bears, leathers, etc. I find that, paradoxically, the bigger and more liberal/cosmopolitan the city, the more bitchy (and consequently, racist) the guys are.

That's my question, too.

YC or anybody else qualified to answer: what is the LGBT scene like at UVA? Are there any neat classes that might relate to LGBT issues? I know that there are a couple of extra-cirricular things -- Lambda Law Alliance and a couple of different womens' groups -- are they active? Do you know if UVA gives residency benefits to same-sex partners like Boalt does (my girlfriend is a VA resident and I'd love to tap into that like I'd be able to do if she were a man and we were married)?

Any thoughts in general?

I could invite you to a family reunion in July, if you want...

I could be your boyfriend. It would be lots of fun.

Lambda Law Alliance is active (basically the UVA OutLaw group), and at least two of the womens' groups are, too. There's a couple of classes on marriage and sexuality and the law; depending on who teaches them, they're either really good or pretty bad. Some Lambda members usually go to the annual Lavender Law Conference; Lambda funds help defray expenses.

The only benefit UVA can give same-sex partners under the state constitution is gym membership. I wish I was kidding; apparently gym membership is not a meaningful enough benefit to count as a marriage benefit.

Feel free to PM me.

Heh, my parents would do backflips to have me show up with a boyfriend. I think it's too cruel to get their hopes up, though :-)

I could explain how you turned me away from a life of gayness.

Why are gay men so anti relationship? I hope its not only my experience but 90% of the guys I sleep with don't "believe in relationships" and then if I play the courting game of dating without sex the farthest I have gotten is maybe 5 dates. I have come to understand the hotter someone is the less likely it will turn into anything substantial. Does this mean I will never find my knight in shining armor and have matching Volvos with cute Asian babies?

Not to brag but I found a total hottie and he and I have been together 7.5 years now. We don't have Volvos but he does drive a hybrid and we have a dog we rescued from the pound (cheaper to feed than a baby)

A good chunk of the gay guys here are in long-term relationships (a fair number long-distance). I don't think we're the norm though.

On a more important note, your avatar = amazing. I host AbFab viewing nights here at SLS :)
