These sorts of things might seem trivial, but I actually think they could have a huge influence on one's law school experience, and general happiness (for instance, as an undergraduate I felt sort of isolated in a rather conservative school, and I think my academic performance suffered because of it).

+1. Tim Gill founded it in Denver, and EVERYONE in the Denver gay scene is on it (as are the gay politicians, business leaders, and other folks). It's the only site I'm willing to use nowadays, despite this being a Grindr thread

Just logged onto Connexion for the first time this weekend. Lots of guys there. and it's funny when you see some friends' profiles too

Hey All. This thread is both awesome and hilarious but I was looking through it and saw no mention of the DC area. Is anybody familiar with it and what it's like? I'm trying to decide between schools in Boston (where I went for UG and still live) and DC where I don't know a whole lot about what's going on.

Thoughts?

I lived in DC for two-years a couple years ago. DC is great. I loved living there. I lived in the Logan Circle area, which is one of the gayborhoods near DuPont Circle. There are plenty of bars and clubs to choose from if you are into that. I also enjoyed being able to pretty much walk or take the metro to anywhere I wanted to go, whether it be to get groceries or go to Target. People in general are friendly, but there are definitely groups of people who are cliquish. PM me if you have any more questions.

I've always wondered if it might actually be harder to find dates in a large gay friendly city. A small fish/big pond kind of thing.

I don't have any real experience so perhaps someone can else can comment. I did notice that Grindr in NYC was overwhelming to the point of not being useful. Not to mention that GPS signals are usually blocked by tall buildings.

My friend at Columbia has had a rough time. Shy small fish in a big pond. He was much more comfortable in Utah.

NYC has the largest single population, gay or straight, of any major city in America, by a large margin. However, its residents also have more friends and spend more time with them than any other city. (Both of these statements I believe to be factually correct, though I learned them from listening in on an awkward blind date going on next to me at a whiskey bar in the East Village.) My thoughts would be that, in a city with such a large population, people have more chances to make friends and less of an incentive to settle down with one person. Whether that's a positive or negative feature of the city is up to you.

+1 Being a native New Yorker, I can tell you that finding a boyfriend isn't necessarily easier here. There is a huge emphasis on bars (I didn't really know there was another way of meeting people until I lived elsewhere). Meeting people online is also pretty big here. NYC is constantly on the go...its an extremely fast-paced city....so there is less incentive to settle down for both gay and straight people.

On the other hand, I find that going on dates and meeting people is a lot easier - simply because there are more options (i.e. gay people). One can literally meet someone walking down the street in any neighborhood, on the subway, in the supermarket, etc. Its actually easier for gay people to meet (and this can be taken in other ways) one another than straight people. And inevitably one of these options can turn into something more serious.

I've lived in DC for 5+ years and the gays are everywhere. We rule Capitol Hill and it's a very educated city, which makes things easier IMHO. Plus hardly anyone is actually from the DC area, so there's always an influx of new twentysomethings in the gay community and the city at large. I've always found Boston to be much more insular and not very geographically diverse.

I did my undergrad in Austin, and there are some hot guys there.

I've gotten on Grindr here, and the 5th person is usually about 42 miles away. FML

so it seems like austin isn't a very iphone-heavy city. while perusing 4th st tonight, i whipped out grindr and the closest person was approximately 1 mile away. the guys there, in rain particularly, weren't bad, and the straight eye candy was a plenty on 6th st.

What kind of guys are you into? AUstin is a little heavy on the twink side and clearly Austin's stock of good looking men had to go down after I moved.
