One of my favorite writers/philosophers is Michel de Montaigne. I was searching for a good quote or piece to show why I identify with him and I stumbled across this. It seemed eerily appropriate.
He who establishes his argument by noise and command shows that his reason is weak.

is it bad that i still have the immature desire to answer many of the questions on TLS with the standard "YOUR MOM!"

i.e. "Tennessee Law Preview Day"
Anyone else going to this next weekend (March 30th)?
Me: YOUR MOM!

"September Test Takers"
WHAT WHAT! Sept test taker here. I even got a fee wavier, man I'm a baller. I don't start studying until May though.

Who is gunna start up the Sept 07 Support Group?
Me: YOUR MOM!

"Who is responsible for the decline of TLS?"
Whose fault is it?
Me: YOUR MOM'S!!!

anyways... i need to grow a sense of humour between now and friday.

:?

this time it's name that blog title quote!

hint.. it's from a novel.. name the novel and you get a chapter in my upcoming TLS work tentatively titled...

"Valley of the Ken dolls" (<---i keed, i keed)

(also.. googling, etc. equals cheating... but i don't police it)

ready.. set... go....!

Spring Break Updates

1. Topher Grace as venom?
I'm a little confused...

2. I've decided I need to travel.. anywhere... somewhere... everywhere... all the stops in between.. I want to get on a highway, and flip a coin at all the stop signs and forks in the road. And I want people to care that I stopped by.

3. I'm curious as to why my dog is bipolar.

4. When it comes down to this time next year I will be a sweating, nervous, husk of a man, trying to figure out where the hell he's going to be going to law school and spending the next three years of my/our life.
How ya'll have not seriously had more violent/earth-shattering breakdowns amazes me a little bit.

Especially people like Deldad who's got the entire family tied onto his decision.

5. I really like chocolate milk.

6. It's always amazed me how well some people can paint/ play an instrument/etc. The only thing I can even attempt to do is write and that's because I'm just writing down other people's voices that I remember, or combining them into a new one. And with writing, if I screw up or totally suck, I can go back and change it before anybody else sees it. It's not out there the second I will it into existence. That finality scares me a little bit.

7. I love freckles, and i'm still not sure why

8. I will live out my dreams, the rest of life shall be my interludes.

9. the echoes of our hearts and souls shall resound upon humanity whether we will it our not.

10. (and finally) When it comes to past that I'm down to my one last friend, and only one person on the earth shall even care who I am, I hope it's passionately and completely in which this feeling exists.

So... I'm back from my pretty severely TLS deprived week.

I'm ready to go... but I'm really tired from travelling... so expect something substantial tomorrow.

that's all for now.. .well and this..

when all is said and done... i want it to be worth it. and if it's not... then maybe the beautiful disaster that i became was meaningful in some other way.

and if we can't see it, maybe it's because we were blind after all.

So.. I'm ready for the summer.. the warm weather has re-invigorated me... and you better believe i'm loving it.

let's play name that quote.....

i'm looking for a novel here...

"Only a man who has felt ultimate despair is capable of feeling ultimate bliss."

and a song here

"the cruelest lies are often told... without a word.. the kindest truths are often spoke, but never... heard"

and a movie here

It's not your fault.
-I know...
No you don't. It's not your fault.
-I know.
No. Listen to me son. It's not your fault.
-I know that.
It's not your fault.

It's not your fault.
-Don't fuck with me Sean. Not you.
It's not your fault.

-Oh my God! I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry Sean!

the best line probably comes right before this exchange..

Will: He used to just put a belt, a stick, and a wrench on the kitchen table and say, "Choose."
Sean: Well, I gotta go with the belt there.
Will: I used to go with the wrench.
Sean: Why?
Will: Cause fuck him, that' why.

and a t.v. show here (you have to name the character too)

"it's like prague.. sans the whimsy"

Can death be sleep, when life is but a dream,
And scenes of bliss pass as a phantom by?
The transient pleasures as a vision seem,
And yet we think the greatest pain's to die.

II.

How strange it is that man on earth should roam,
And lead a life of woe, but not forsake
His rugged path; nor dare he view alone
His future doom which is but to awake

law related pop punk lyrics
The D.A. is dressed to the nines
In the mirror he practices all his lines
To his closing argument twelve hearts beat in favor
I'm guessing that he read the morning paper
The headline reads "the man hangs", but the jury doesn't

And everyone's looking for relief
United States versus disbelief
Mothers cast tears on both sides of the aisle
Clear your throat and face the world
The verdict falls like bachelors for bad luck girls
Only breathing with the aid of denial.

Case open, case shut,
But you could pay to close it like a casket
Baby boy can't lift his headache head
Isn't it tragic? (Whoaaa-ooo)

He glances at his peers sitting seven to twelve stacked
On one to six the gallery is hushed
Boys in three pieces dream of grandstanding and bravado
The city sleeps in a cell notwithstanding what we all know
Hang on a rope or bated breath
Whichever you prefer

And everyone's looking for relief
A bidding war for an old flame's grief
The cause, the kid, the course, the charm, and the curse
Not a word that could make you comprehend
Too well dressed for the witness stand
The press prays for whichever headline's worse

Case open, case shut,
But you could pay to close it like a casket
Baby boy can't lift his headache head
Isn't it tragic? (Whoaaa-ooo)

Fresh pressed suit and tie
Unimpressed birds sing and die
Can talk my way out of anything
The foreman reads the verdict
"In the above entitled actions we find the defendant..."
Guilty...Guilty...Guilty...Guilty...

Case open, case shut,
But you could pay to close it like a casket
Baby boy can't lift his headache head
Isn't it tragic?

From the Memphis Commercial Appeal
(read it... please)

The irony is painful.
Plans are under way to build a memorial for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to be prominently displayed between the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials.

It's a fitting tribute to the civil rights leader who was slain here in Memphis.
Unfortunately, the project has become mired in controversy over the hiring of a Chinese sculptor to craft King's likeness.

"They've selected a Chinese sculptor from Communist China to do it," complained Morris T. Howard, a Memphis artist. "There's a lot of dissatisfaction with that."

According to Howard and others who share his views, it's unconscionable that an African-American artist wasn't chosen to do the work. They claim the $100 million project has been hijacked by corporate interests.

Atlanta artist Gilbert Young started a Web site in an attempt to mobilize opposition against the selection of Chinese artist Lei Yixin and even the use of Chinese granite instead of rock hewn from Stone Mountain in Georgia.

"You mean to tell me we couldn't find a stone in America that was good enough?" Young asks. "You mean to tell me we couldn't find a black artist who was good enough?"

We'll leave the rock debate to geologists. However, it seems like Howard, Young and other detractors have missed an essential point of King's teachings.

In his 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech, King spoke of a day in which people would be judged not by the color of their skin, but the content of their character.

The memorial project's critics apparently fail to see that they're doing exactly the opposite of what King advocated.

They want Lei disqualified from consideration based on the color of his skin. Or the politics of his home country. Or perhaps both. That's discrimination, any way you look at it.

Lei emerged as the top choice after the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Foundation saw his work in a sculpting competition. It's worth noting, by the way, that 90 percent of the foundation's selection committee members are African-American.

Young further suggests that King -- and by extension, the monument project -- "belong" to African-Americans. (Young's Web site is called KingIsOurs.com)

That kind of thinking demeans the universal appeal of King's message.

One of the inscriptions planned for the monument comes from a 1967 King speech, in which he said: "If we are to have peace on earth, our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional. Our loyalties must transcend race, our tribe, our class, and our nation; and this means we must develop a world perspective."

In light of his world view, King might have been pleased to have his memorial handled by someone from a distant country, particularly one where people are struggling for civil liberties.

He might not approve of everything China is doing as a nation, just as he didn't agree with everything the United States did while he was alive.

Above all, though, he stood for the rights of the individual. Even individuals who didn't look like him.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
