Best Quality of Life in the Top 30
Hi! I applied to a variety of schools in the top 30, and I am wondering as to everyone's opinions on which of these schools has the best quality of life? By quality of life I mean students enjoy their experiences (i.e. less stress, good first-year experience, students have time to go out, not cut-throat, etc.).
I'd really love to hear from current law school students!

YLS. Reportedly they only study 1.5 hours a day (not saying I buy it). Also, being guaranteed a six figure job on graduation does wonders for stress ITE.

I say....Minnesota.
Never even been to the state before but I like beer, hockey, and football and it appears as if there is no shortage of those things in the state. Plus I heard Izzy's ice cream is amazing

I have enjoyed it here at Duke. But I really think the only person who can assess what the quality of life would be to you is you. So go visit, or ask more specific questions of people who actually go to the schools, or preferably both.
(Although to clarify, wait to visit until you get in. No point in wasting money considering the number of applications you should be filling out.)

I read that too, although I don't buy that their students only study that much, from what I've read about their grading policies and seen of their employment stats it does seem like you could actually get away with that tiny amount of studying and still land an insane job. They don't even curve, and you get like 3 chances to try out for Law Review.

Illinois has been pretty chill. Lots of activities, everybody gets along, not gunnerish, I've been impressed.annabell wrote:Hi! To the person who said non-urban schools have better QOL: I respectfully disagree. 24/7 public transportation FTFW.

Re: Best Quality of Life in the Top 30
The overall cost of living is still much higher in a place like New York, public transit or not, than it is with a car and gas in Ann Arbor or Charlottesville. Honestly, I would very drawn to throwing an ED at NYU if it wasn't for the insane COL. It would be a shock for my wallet going from paying $200 for my half of a fullsize double bedroom apartment in my small Minnesota college town to paying God-knows-what for a one-bedroom flat with water-stained ceilings, leaky windows, broken heating and whatever else plagues the "cheap" side of the New York lifestyle.OperaSoprano wrote:

QOL in Seattle is great relative to other major cities, and all of the current law students at UW that I have talked to are really enjoying their experience at the school.
